Germany 1933
A man held his glass of fine wine as he spoke to the group surrounding him. The bar was alight with music and patrons, all glad to escape the chaos of Germany.
"The purpose of art is to portray life as it is. When that world is joyous, art must reflect that beauty, but when our existence is beset with unrest, humiliation, hyperinflation, the indignity of reparations, art must necessarily be equally drab and ugly," August Muller said. He had a small smirk on his lips. He believed every word he preached.
On the couch before August, Klaus sat with his hair slicked back. "Or perhaps, August, the ugliness is a result of the artist lacking any discernible talent."
Klaus laughed as August's smirk dropped. "The mission of art is to engage our most primal selves," Klaus said. The woman next to him moved closer. He began to run his hand along her leg. "To inflame our passion, to provoke our insight." Klaus took her arm, bringing her hand to his face. "And it should inspire us to drink and brawl and give our sensual race the rein."
"Derivative," a voice said from behind Klaus. Klaus' heart soared. He had not heard the voice since New Orleans. "And so extraordinarily tedious."
Elijah walked over to the couch with a smile. "I wouldn't argue with this fool," Elijah said, motioning to Klaus. "when he's not listening to a single word you say. He's simply waiting for you to draw a breath so that he might pontificate anew."
Klaus shook his head. "I believe you're thinking of my brother, Elijah. He's the pompous, controlling one." He stood to meet Elijah.
"Interesting," a feminine voice laughed. Klaus' eyes moved from Elijah to the piano. The brunette pianist had stood for the new blonde playing a joyful jazz tune. "I'd always heard that Elijah was the enigmatic and charming one." Lexi quietly thanked the brunette before approaching her brothers. She linked her arm with Elijah and smirked. "The truly distinguished element of the family. Not to mention the smartest one, the young Alexis. I hear she's gorgeous."
Elijah ran his eyes down Klaus's body. "Thirteen years and you don't look a day over a thousand. How do you do it, Niklaus?"
Klaus' smirk broke into a genuine smile. He threw his arms around Elijah and Lexi, patting their backs. Lexi's laugh soars through the air. "We've missed you too, Nik," she said, kissing his cheek.
Elijah grabbed the back of Klaus' head, holding him tight. "I fear word of your presence in Germany has spread." Klaus tensed. "Rumors of Mikael are rampant across Europe."
Klaus pulled away and motioned for his siblings to follow him to a separate table. He points back at August and said, "Sit tight, August. I'll get back to your hackery momentarily." August scowled as he returned to painting.
The three reunited Mikaelsons sat at a table. Klaus motioned for drinks as Lexi quietly asked, "Friend of yours?"
"Hardly."

Stella and Hope stand next to each other, both in loose tank tops and dark leggings. Lexi stands across the room. "Let's see what you can do," Lexi says with a smile.
Hope and Stella exchange a smirk before they start running all over the old garden house. Hope jumps up the three stories of the building without breaking stride. Stella has more trouble: she climbs the wood railings, jumping from floor to floor. It's easier when some of the floors haven't fallen.
