He couldn't drive faster.

"You need to get here. Now."

The vampire had said that. The vampire had said to get in the car and drive.

"I-I don't know. He snapped my neck, I couldn't do anything."

So, they went in alone. Two Mikaelsons against Greta Sienna.

"I saw someone jump out. They...They didn't have daylight rings."

His wife wasn't a vampire. Not her.

"I walked in. There's so much blood."

"Next right," Teddy says, but his voice is miles away.

"Klaus' neck is snapped. I don't know if he saw anything. Hope is unconscious, thank god."

He jerks the steering wheel to the right. Stella cries out. He glances in the mirror to see her locator spell had toppled over.

"But...Lexi..."

Her voice mingled with static. He couldn't tell what she was saying. He remembers asking where they were. Where she was.

"I think she's with your sister."

He barely put the car in park before he was running to the house. He sees the kids pause before the two burning bodies. Caroline is in his way.

"Move," he growls, his eyes glowing red.

"Derek, calm down," Caroline says as she raises her hands. They are stained with blood. "Tell me who they are first. You have to focus."

The vampire motions to the kids. "Teddy and Stella Hale," the blonde boy states, his eyes flashing yellow. "Where's our mom?"

Caroline's eyes fall to her hands. "They shouldn't go in."

He pushes past her and into the dingy house. He can hear Caroline blocking the kids.

"Can you tell who they were?" Caroline asks in a world far from his own.

His eyes find blonde.

"Greta," Teddy answers.

She isn't moving.

"And..."

Her veins are black.

"No...This can't be happening."

He falls to his knees.

She's lying in a pool of blood. The roaring of the wind fills his ears. He can't hear anything. He can't feel the rough ground beneath his knees.

All he sees is her. All he smells is blood. All he tastes is grief and rage and fear.

"Where's my mom?! She'll fix this! She'll tell us Teddy's wrong! Aunt Hayley can't be..."

"Lexi," he breathes, slowly crawling towards her.

Then he sees it. That small movement. Her chest rises. Once, just once.

Then it falls.

And rises.

And falls.

The roaring disappears. He can hear his children, both trying to get past Caroline without hurting her. He can feel Lexi's skin beneath his hands. He can smell the smoke outside and the blood inside.

He knows that scent.

Carefully, he turns. He sees his niece first, perfectly unharmed in the mess. Then he sees the window.

He must have started shouting. He doesn't hear the slam of the door. He doesn't hear the footsteps approaching him. He doesn't hear his daughter scream or his son roar in grief.

He hears the silence of his sister's chest.

"Mom? Mommy!" Stella cries, her hands moving over Lexi's body. "I-I can't—I don't know—I can't fix this if I don't know what's wrong!"

"Yellow wolfsbane," Teddy rasps. "I can smell it."

He could smell it too. "But there's no wound," he snaps. "There's no stab mark, no bullet hole, nothing. How did it get in her system?!"

Teddy shakes his head hopelessly. Lexi's chest slows.

"Derek!" Caroline shouts, running outside. "We've got company!"

He doesn't listen. Teddy runs out, claws drawn and canines out with blazing yellow eyes, ready to defend the last of his family from harm. He only keeps searching her body.

Stella begins to chant healing spells, revealing spells, anything. Lexi's chest slows more.

He leans down next to her ear. "Don't die on me," he says. "You can't die on me, you promised. You promised you would survive, that we would all survive this. You can't leave us, not now."

"She's not going to." A voice from behind him catches him off guard. He turns his head to see red eyes. "Now move."

Stella moves away as someone else, someone with short-cropped hair and hazel eyes, runs in with a toolkit. The man picks up a syringe next to Lexi, examining it.

"It's a good thing Cora found us," Stiles says, placing the syringe down. "There's no wound because it was injected. I need access to a blood vessel to burn out the wolfsbane. Now, I learned nothing from anatomy. Find me a vein, Derek."

He grabs Lexi's arm, twisting until blood pools beneath. Stiles' eyes flash, no doubt with a forgotten memory of the past. He brings out a small blowtorch, igniting it. "Hold her down," he orders before lowering the flame to Lexi's skin.

The smell reaches him first. He contains a gag as the fire burns away the wolfsbane hidden beneath her skin. Lexi's veins change color, from black to nothing at all.

Stiles finally pulls away and turns off the blowtorch. "She's ok," he says. "She needs rest, but she'll be ok."

Stella is crying next to Stiles. She throws her arms around him, sobbing into his chest. "Thank you," she mumbles again and again.

Derek leans his head against Lexi's forehead. He lets his tears fall from his eyes to her face as if it would help. He feels a hand on his shoulder. He knows it is the True Alpha.

"I'm sorry," Scott says.

And that's when Derek begins to sob.

This one is also pretty emotional. Hope you enjoyed!
