Teddy walks into the bar; the heat warms his face from the cool breeze of the outside. What he sees at the central table makes him laugh. "Hey, guys," he says as he walks over.
Derek and Lexi look back as he drags up a chair. Scott and Stiles, who sit across the table, send each other a look. Teddy sends them both his famous Hale smirk. "What's up?" He asks.
"Spying on you," Lexi replies as she sips her margarita.
Teddy pouts playfully. "I thought we were passed this stage of our relationship, Mom. Don't you trust us?"
"We trust you," Derek says. "We don't trust other people."
Teddy barks out a laugh as he grabs Stiles' mojito. The human makes a whining noise as Teddy drinks. "That was expensive!" Stiles exclaims. "And it was mine!"
"Well, spying is expensive, isn't it?" Teddy finishes the mojito before raising his hand to order another.
"We weren't told we were spying on you," Scott says, sending dirty looks towards the Hales. "We just wanted your father to calm down after this morning's fiasco."
"What happened this morning?" Teddy asks, turning to his father. He swings his arm over Derek's shoulders as he leans in.
Derek grumbles a reply. "Stella had a girl in her room."
Teddy lets out a loud laugh, throwing his head back. "Seriously? Which girl? Do I know her?"
"Josie Saltzman," Lexi says. "We did not know they were friends."
Teddy frowns. "They don't know each other."
"Apparently they do," Derek mutters bitterly.
"Why are you so bitter?" Lexi asks. "It's just a girl."
"Who we don't know," Derek says. "Who is the daughter of a man who has tried to kill you multiple times. Who is a siphoner witch."
"Our daughter is a Hale witch, a Mikaelson legacy, the daughter of the world's first werewolf and a Hale Alpha," Lexi snaps back with a playful tone. "Both are extraordinary with full lives ahead of them. You have to let them live, Derek."
Derek crosses his arms over his chest with a pout. Lexi presses a soft kiss to his cheek as she leans against his shoulder. Derek cannot hide the smile on his face.
"Why are you here?" Stiles asks Teddy, sending a look of disgust towards the happy couple.
Teddy's eyes darken. "Stella sent me. Didn't want me there. Thought I should get beer for the wolves. It's a party, right?"
Lexi frowns, turning her head. "Why doesn't she want you there?"
"Carter."
Derek's eyes flash red. He tenses his muscles as a growl escapes his lips; he tries to stand, ready to march across the street, but Lexi catches his arm.
"Stop it," she hisses. "Calm down."
"Calm down?" Derek echoes. "She hurt our daughter. I warned Carter what would happen if she hurt Stella—"
"You want to actually get arrested for murder, Sourwolf?" Stiles snaps. "If you want to spend the rest of your life outside a jail cell, I suggest you sit down."
Derek's eyes fade back to green as he turns his glare on Stiles. The human meets his cold gaze without flinching. "What are you gonna do, Derek? Huh?"
Derek adjusts the seat, pulling it towards the table. Lexi, Teddy, and Scott watch as Derek rests his arms against the surface with his lips pressed together. The Alpha's hand snaps out, grabbing onto Stiles' shirt.
The human yelps as he is tugged across the table. Stiles tries to yank Derek's hands off of him, but no human can fight an Alpha. "Dude!" He whines.
Derek leans in so that his breath heats up Stiles' face. The human goes still. "I will rip your throat out," Derek whispers threateningly. "With. My. Teeth."
"Enough, Derek," Scott says, his eyes glancing between the other people at the table. "You might actually kill him this time."
"What makes you think I won't?" Derek snaps. He leans back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest with a discontent frown on his face.
"Somewhere deep inside, I know you like me," Stiles smirks as he adjusts his shirt. "Even Lydia agrees with me."
Lexi leans forward, resting her arms on the sticky table. "How are Lydia and Claudia? We haven't heard from you in a long time."
Suddenly, Stiles' smirk diminishes to a look of pure love and adoration. "Claudia is starting first grade soon—she has been talking about it for the past few months. She's so excited to move on from 'small kid land' and into 'big kid school.' Lydia is thriving in the fashion business. She's overworked, but she loves it anyway."
A soft smile blooms on Lexi's lips. "And your father?"
Stiles slumps in his chair as he sighs. "He's ok. Some days are better than others. He moved in with us, actually."
Lexi nods in understand before she glances at Scott. "Your mother?"
Scott's subdued smile surfaces. "She's great actually. She is the head nurse back home. She's been doing a lot better, but she hasn't been the same since Argent passed away."
"And we all know how your families are doing," Stiles mumbles under his breath. All of the werewolves hear him.
"It's a shit show, as always," Lexi sighs. She glances back and out the window at the church. As she narrows her eyes, she can faintly see Stella's black hair through the glow of the church. "You should get back, Teddy. She may need those beers."
Before Teddy can move his seat back, the windows of the building across the street blow out as flames crawl up the stone.
Derek grabs both Lexi and Teddy, shoving them under the table as the bar's windows blow in. Scott latches onto Stiles and pulls him down to the ground.
Screams of pain echo through the streets as Derek slowly sits back up. He stares at the church in horror as his family members get their bearings.
Teddy gets to his feet first, the broken beers forgotten. "Stella," he whispers before he runs from the bar.
Lexi's breathing comes out fast and short. She can't inhale enough as panic wells in her gut. She and Derek race out the door.
Warning for the next one: it will be sad.
I've had a crappy week. Here's to hoping the next one's better.
Hope you enjoyed!
