Hope sits in her room when Lexi walks in. Stella is nowhere to be seen. "Where's—"

"Stella's touring town," Lexi says as she drags a chair up to the bed. Hope looks at her in confusion. "There has been a development with your mother."

Hope's eyes light up. "Tell me."

"She was taken by a group of fascists," Lexi explains, pain in her eyes. "Headed by a woman, Greta. She won't tell your father where Hayley is, no matter what he and your aunts and uncles do. She has one request. The only problem is, she wants more than that. She will keep making demands until she gets what she wants, and then she'll just kill your mother—"

"What does she want?" Hope asks.

"It's not that simple—"

Hope stands from the bed. "It is that simple. We do something, and my mom comes home. What is it?"

"Hope—"

"What is it?!" Hope demands. The lamp on Hope's desk shatters. "Don't hold back, Lexi. What do they want?"

"They want you to bind your werewolf side!" Lexi exclaims. "They want you to deny who you are, they want you to become what your father was for years. They want you weak and controllable."

Hope stares at Lexi with wide eyes. It is only the that Lexi catches herself. She sighs, letting her shoulders drop. "I'm sorry. I did not mean—"

"I'll do it."

Lexi looks up. "What?"

"If it'll get my mom back, I'll go to hell and back," Hope says. "I'll do this."

"No," Lexi says, shaking her head. "No, I will not let you do this."

"Then why did you tell me?" Hope asks. "Why risk me wanting to do it? Why tell me at all when you knew I would say yes?"

Lexi clenches her jaw. "Because you deserve to know. Nik doesn't want to tell you, but you deserve the truth. Even if it hurts." Lexi sighs as she runs a hand through her hair. "Hope, this spell will be painful. It will tear you apart, mark you as separate forever. You won't be able to ever be like your mother. You won't ever be a werewolf."

"But I'm willing to take that chance," Hope says. "I'm willing to be hurt and to be weird if it means I get my mom back. I caused this mess, Lexi! I caused it! It's all my fault!" Tears spring to Hope's eyes. "I need to fix this. And you have to help me do it, or else they'll kill Mom anyway. Please."

Lexi stares into Hope's blue eyes. She feels like she is staring at Klaus. The same eyes. The same unchecked anger. The same guilt-clouded decisions.

"If I agree to this," Lexi whispers. "You're father will kill me."

"No, he won't."

"He will never forgive me," Lexi says. "Which is why I will not know about it." Lexi takes a step away. Her heart beats against her ribs. She shouldn't be saying this. "I am going to leave my phone here." It falls from her pocket as she continues moving backward. "I told you nothing." Lexi makes her way to the door. "I never knew about this."

Hope nods. Lexi sends her a weak smile. "My advise? Choose your own fate, do not let someone else decide for you. If you do, you'll never stop."

"You should've let me rip his throat out!" Lexi exclaimed as she and Klaus walked down the long forest trail. Elijah trailed behind them. "Instead, you let him leave."
