As Elijah secures the chains around Klaus' wrists, Kol sighs heavily with crossed arms. "Just when I thought he was showing the vaguest signs of maturity, our brother makes a unilateral decision that leaves the rest of us stewing in his melodrama."
On either side of him, his sisters glare at his facial profile. "His death is not a melodrama," Rebekah snaps as Lexi slaps his arm.
"Well, he's spiraling," Elijah says, dropping Klaus' wrists. "This energy feeds on anger."
"And our brother, as we know, has enough to set the world on fire," Lexi adds with a sigh.
Kol analyzes her concerned expression. Her eyebrows are pinned as the slight frown on her lips deepens. Her narrowed blue eyes hold worry with a hint of annoyance.
He rolls his eyes. "How many times are we going to play this game? Calamity and doom approach our brother, and then, all of a sudden, a trapdoor appears and, poof, he escapes. He's a cockroach that will outlive us all. And we're immortal."
"What if it's different this time?" Rebekah replies with anger simmering beneath the surface. "What if he figures out a way to end it all."
Kol lets a sarcastic smile slip onto his lips. "I don't think he would notice or care that I wasn't there to witness it." He does his best to avoid Lexi's stare. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going home."
Lexi calls out his name as he exits the dungeon. She watches him hesitate before disappearing behind a corner. With a sigh, she looks back at her other siblings. "He'll be back," she says halfheartedly.
"Will he?" Rebekah retorts before taking her own leave.
Elijah glances up at Lexi as he stands before Klaus' unconscious body. The blonde crosses her arms over her body as she leans against the stone wall. "I don't want him to wake alone," she tells him softly. "Please tell my family I'll be down here."
"And if they would like to see you?" He asks. "What shall I tell them?"
Lexi sighs. "I have a phone. I already told Teddy and Stella to try to stay with Hope. She needs them right now."
Elijah nods before he retreats out of the dungeon. He looks back at her before leaving to see her settle right next to Klaus against the hard rock. She leans her head against his and closes her eyes before she begins to hum a soft tune. She slips her fingers in his limp grasp.
Elijah cannot help but feel a small relief as he sees out of the dungeon.
"Nik, you have to fight it," Lexi whispers, looking at his pained expression. "Fight it for me and for your daughter. Please."
He does not answer.
The first response she gets is two hours later when Klaus groans. Lexi jolts up, cupping his face in her hands. "Nik? Can you hear me?" She looks between his eyes as fear clouds his expression. "Nik, it's Alexis."
He stumbles to his feet, not bothering to respond to her. Lexi follows him, always standing by his side. "Nik, I know you're seeing things," she says carefully, glancing at the area before him. "but it's not real—"
"Shut your damn mouth," Klaus snarls, surging forward. His arm goes in front of Lexi as if protecting her from whatever image he sees.
Lexi clamps her mouth shut as Klaus spins to look at the entrance to the dungeon. "Camille?" He whispers. "What are you doing here?"
Sympathy and grief fill Lexi's heart. "Nik, Camille is dead, remember?" Lexi says. "She died years ago."
Klaus' expression turns furious as he glares at the empty space before him. "Don't talk about my daughter!"
