Who can say
If I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better
And because I knew you
Because I knew you
I have been changed
For good

Sitting alone on the green field, Stella lets the breeze cool her skin. She breathes deeply with her eyes closed as she allows herself to relax and immerse herself into the chirps of birds and the rush of flowing water.
She can imagine Carter sitting beside her. The brunette human would have liked the Salvatore School. "It's so peaceful." Stella hears her saying. "I could lie down here and never get up."
Stella opens her eyes, looking next to her. The empty space serves as a painful reminder: it's just her imagination. Carter is dead, lying in another green field miles away from Stella.
As footsteps fill her ears, Stella does not move her eyes from the empty seat beside her—not even when a brunette siphoner fills it. Josie smiles at Stella. "When'd you get in?"
"About an hour ago," Stella replies, finally meeting Josie's gaze. "I came out here to think a little."
"You mind if I think with you?"
Stella hesitates before nodding. She turns to look back at the vast expanse of land before them and lets her eyes fall closed. The sounds capture her once more as she lets the leash on her magic slip. A warm breeze floats through the air as Stella takes a deep breath.
"You know, this is the first time we've met in person," Josie says suddenly. Gently, she rests her hand on top of Stella's.
The Hale with jumps at the contact as a shiver runs up her spine. "Sorry!" Jose exclaims, pulling her hand back as she blushes. "I just—you looked like you needed a friend, and I jumped the gun—"
Stella responds by taking Josie's hand back. Warmth spreads under her skin as she lets a smile grow on her lips. "I was just surprised. That's all."
The siphoner relaxes with a smile. She grips Stella's hand tightly as they both look out over the yard. Together, they survey the playing kids and chirping animals. The carefree nature of the people puts both girls at ease in each other's presence.
