A dense cloud of emotion lays over the Mikaelson compound. The breakfast table is half full, the empty seats glaring into the full ones. Freya sits to Klaus' right, Hope to his left. Lexi is seated next to Freya, Derek beside her with his hand in her's. Neither looks happy to be there, unlike the rest of the family.

Klaus raises his mimosa with a smirk on his face. The others raise their glasses in response. "The curse that plagued our family for seventeen years has taken its toll on all of us," He begins, moving his eyes to the rest of the broken compound. "On our city. On our home. On our family."

Derek tenses and tightens his grip on Lexi's hand. She leans over to rest her head against his shoulder.

"The consequences of us being together were grave, but today, thanks to you," Klaus looks into Hope's eyes as happiness lights his face. "we celebrate a new beginning. One in which we have the freedom to stand side by side. And whatever trials may come, we will face them together, as a family. Always and forever."

As the three pure Mikaelsons drink, Lexi mouths her own mantra: "Until forever ends."

Derek lets a smile grace his lips as he presses a soft kiss to her forehead. He taps Lexi's glass with his in a toast before drinking.

"Would you please pass the beignets?" Hope asks with her eyes on the pastries.

With a smile, Lexi hands them over. "Of course, darling."

Klaus puts down his empty glass before folding his arms on the table. "So, Rebekah will be back in a few days. She's just tying up some loose ends overseas."

"It'll be nice to have her here," Hope says. Just the prospect of her aunt makes her smile.

Freya nods. "It'll be good to have all of us under one roof again."

Footsteps echo off the stone walls of the compound. The tense atmosphere gets worse. Derek sits straight up, his nose flaring as his expression contorts in anger. The moment Hope sees this, her smile falls.

Elijah walks into the dining room, a tailored suit back on his body.

Derek and Hope refuse to look at him. Lexi stares blankly at him, an unyielding expression on her face. Klaus purses his lips as Freya sends the wayward brother a smile.

"Good morning," Elijah greets as he grips the chair before him. His knuckles turn white. "Obviously, there is a lot for us to discuss." His eyes move from Derek to Hope. "Let me begin by telling you how truly sorry—"

Lexi's eyes find the bent fork on Hope's hand as the girl stands up abruptly. "Thanks for breakfast, guys, but I have work to catch up on."

Derek coughs as he stands. "I should check on the kids." He presses a quick kiss to Lexi's forehead. "I'll walk you out, Hope."

The witch nods and follows her uncle out of the room without a look at Elijah.

Klaus sighs and lets his eyes find the bent fork. "That's not normal."

"She's not normal," Lexi replies as she sinks into her chair. Her posture breaks as she brings her knee up onto the seat. "She lost her mother, Niklaus."

"I shouldn't have come down here," Elijah says, shaking his head.

"At least you can claim amnesia, unlike our sister," Klaus sends Freya a seething glare. "who willingly aided a child in ruining her life."
