Elsa's POV
"Greetings honored guests! Are you ready for the next trial?" Pitch's cheery voice rang out. I most definitely was not ready. Not until I knew if Jack was ok. Why would he not admit about the cut? The stubborn hero.
"No. Jack is unable to participate anymore." Pitch replied. Someone else must have asked a question. It was so hard to piece together the conversation when you could only hear two people out of the six, possibly seven, speak.
"I just told you. He is out of the games. Eliminated. Gone. Deleted." Pitch listed.
"So he went home?" I called. Pitch laughed.
"In a sense. He will be unable to return, but at the same time unable to continue." Pitch explained. Pause.
"He is not dead. Yet. He is almost dead. But dead can be arranged for." Pitch said. Pause.
"No. He is my little toy. I am not going to revive him so that you can have him! Who do you think I am? North? I don't give out free gifts!" Pitch ranted. Who was North?
"For the last time, NO! I am not going to save Jack Frost! He deserves to die!" Pitch yelled. There was a long pause. I started to wonder if he had left.
"I suppose that does make sense... in a way... after all, it is more fun to watch him suffer than it is to watch him die... but to finally have him at my mercy..." Pitch wondered aloud. I waited. Finally, he cleared his throat.
"I have made a decision. There is a way I will give Jack back to you. But you have to earn it. I will make a maze for you. Won't that be fun? And do you know what the prize is? If you get to the middle, at least one of you, then you guys can all have Jack back." Pitch said. My heart soared. A chance to save Jack!
"But there is a catch. There is always a catch. Funny how you hate catches until you are the one giving them. But anyway, you only have two hours to reach Jack. Have fun!" Pitch called, then a portal opened up under my feet. I hate it when he does that. I fell screaming into a long corridor. Hiccup landed in a crouch beside me, then he stood and helped me to my feet.
"I hate it when he does that." Hiccup growled.
"Me too." I told him. Hiccup looked left, then right. It looked the same in either direction. Just stone floors and smooth metal walls. No use trying to climb those.
"You have two hours starting now." Pitch said. Me and Hiccup began running to the left. I have no idea why, but Hiccup seemed to know what he was doing. At the first junction, he turned left. Same for the one after that.
"Why are we only turning left?" I asked Hiccup.
"Because the trick with mazes is always turn left." He explained as we ran along. Another left.
"But won't that only work with mazes where the exit is on one of the edges? In this case we want to get to the middle." I explained. Hiccup slowed down, then stopped.
"I guess you're right. Because the left trick gets you to an outer wall, then you just follow it. This will be trial and error." Hiccup whispered to himself. Then he started walking again, this time turning right whenever he could. We turned right three times, then he started turning randomly. I could feel the clock ticking. Time was running out to save Jack.
"Five minutes left." Pitch said suddenly.
"WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" I yelled. Hiccup covered his ears.
"Ouch! Man you are loud! It was a joke! You have an hour and a half still!" Pitch said quickly. I smiled to myself. His ears might take a little bit to heal. I could be very loud. Me and Hiccup continued through the maze.
Merida's POV
I ran down one corridor after the other with Rapunzel. We had to reach the center in time to save Jack. It wasn't like I was in love with him or anything, I would leave that to Elsa, but he was now part of the team. After a while, Pitch interrupted the silence.
"Five minutes left." He said.
"WHAT? ARD YOU KIDDING ME?" We herd Elsa shout from somewhere. Boy, was that girl loud!
"Ouch! Man are you loud! It was a joke! You have an hour and a half left!" Pitch said quickly. Served him right. Me and Rapunzel kept on running. Nothing popped out at us around corners. For once, this was just a normal maze. Thank goodness.
"Thirty minutes darlings." Pitch purred. What? Thirty minutes? Where had the time gone?
"And this time I am not joking." Pitch continued. Shoot.
"Time to go into high gear." Rapunzel said. She undid her braid.
"What are you going to do?" I asked her.
"Make a trail. I wasn't going to do it before, because I thought there would be monsters. But now we have no choice." She explained. She laid her hair in a huge bundle on the floor.
"That's going to make a big knot." I muttered. Rapunzel laughed.
"I'll just brush it out later." We started walking again, this time slower and with Rapunzel behind me. But we didn't get very far.
"Oh no you don't. Using your hair to make a trail? That is an unfair advantage. The others can't do that." Pitch tutted. I heard the grating of stone behind me, then a scream. I spun around with my bow drawn.
Rapunzel was in a small stone pillar and was surrounded by black sand. Her hair had already fallen in. It was probably dragging her down with it.
"Don't worry Rapunzel! I'll find a way to get you out of there!" I told her. I searched for something, anything, that could reach Rapunzel. The pillar shook a little, and part of it fell away. Rapunzel moved to the center, which wasn't much. The pillar was hardly the size of a textbook.
"Hold on!" I said again. How was I going to reach her?
"No Merida! It's no use!" Rapunzel said. I rolled my eyes.
"Don't you go all tragic hero on me too! I will get you out of there." I growled. Now it was her turn to roll her eyes.
"Fine. Try to save me. But before you fail, I have something important to tell you." Was it my imagination, or was her chocker starting to glow?
"I will not fail! But out of curiosity, what is it you want to tell me?"
"Don't lose your relationship with Hiccup!" She burst out.
"Really? That's the important thing you want to tell me?" I complained. The pillar crumbled more.
"Yes." The chocker stopped glowing.
"Fine. Now, you may have to jump..."
"Test my theory! This is all fake! That's why it's called the Chamber of-" Rapunzel broke off, grabbing her neck. The chocker flared white, then Rapunzel stumbled off the pillar.
"RAPUNZEL!" I yelled, reaching for her. But she was already gone. The floor closed over the pit of black sand, removing any trace of the horror that had happened there. I wanted to search more, and see if she was still there, but I had to find Jack. And I had to consider what she had said. This was all fake...
I took a risk and shoved my hand into the wall. It went through, sinking up to my elbow. It felt all gritty. So she was right... this was all fake. In her sacrifice, she had made it so I could save Jack. I clenched my fist and charges through the wall, towards what I hoped was the center of the room.
