Some examples of what I mean:

- Modern music being mentioned or 'spelt out' (don't get me started on that shit) in books and fanfiction set decades - or centuries - before its release.

NEWS FLASH: Harry Styles wasn't even fucking born when Harry Potter started Hogwarts!

- Books and fanfiction (particularly Tom Riddle-era fanfiction) set in the 40s in London, describing the beauty of everything, while completely ignoring London was a graveyard of tens of thousands of people killed in the Blitz and the V bombings, ...

God, do people seriously not learn anything about how much WW2 affected the whole world? This doesn't mean you have to write a war book, but if you are writing in this era you cannot ignore one of the most significant events in human history.

This is the particularly bad problem in Harry Potter fanfictions set in the Tom Riddle/final years of Grindelwald era, where many people (even in the best fanfictions) forget what sort of London Tom Riddle grew up in.

First of all - no one gives a fuck what your character is wearing unless it is important to the plot of the story - and no, describing everything a character is wearing in four paragraphs down to their fucking makeup to 'emphasize how pretty they ...

First of all - no one gives a fuck what your character is wearing unless it is important to the plot of the story - and no, describing everything a character is wearing in four paragraphs down to their fucking makeup to 'emphasize how pretty they are' is not important to your obviously shitty plot.

So PLEASE stop doing this!

As a history major, this is probably the most frustrating thing in any book ever and is the biggest turn off for me other than the obvious (spelling and grammar). It takes a lot for me to look over historical errors.
