-Abigail's POV

The next day, Jenny picked me up as usual to go to school.

As she parked her car, we noticed a small group of the popular clan talking near the gate. They were not laughing loudly as they usually do. In fact, as far as I remember, I've never seen them so serious.

Being nosy and curious, Jen and I tried to listen to their conversation while passing nearby but we were able to grab only a few words:

"Yeah.. they left quite early."

"His mobile is unreachable and hers is currently switched off.."

"Lucy said that she went to vist her in the hospital.."

Lucy is Britney's bestfriend. She is always following her around like a little puppy. Now don't get me wrong.. I have nothing against her but something tells me that she stays with Britney only to gain some popularity. Afterall, Britney Drews is one of the most pretty girls and almost everyone treats her like a Queen Bee. Not that I'm jealous but sometimes it gets really annoying.

I wonder who Lucy went to see at a hospital.. Perhaps a relative? And who were they talking about? Maybe someone from school was ill.. My trail of thoughts is broken by the bell and I rush to my class.

At lunch break, I joined Jenny at our usual table, in a remote corner of the canteen. Call it shyness if you want but we just don't like to be in the constant vision of others.

"Guess what happened yesterday?" Jen exclaimed as soon as I sat.

"You are still thinking about that party?" I asked overly annoyed.

"No Abby.. It's not about the party. I heard Lucy talking earlier today in Hustory class and guess what? Britney and Joey had a major accident yesterday while leaving the party," she explains. Well, basically it was about the party.

Although I wasn't a great fan of them, I still felt sorry. I mean, no matter how snobbish or cruel you are, nobody deserves such a painful punishment, right? I couldn't help feeling bad for them but my inner conscious kept telling me that it serves Joey right. He doesn't even deserve my pity but I can't help it..

"Now I understand what they were talking about, this morning, near the gate.." I said absently.

Unwillingly, my eyes dart to the biggest table of the canteen where the popular ones are seated. Indeed, Joey and Britney are not at their usual place, at the head of the table and Lucy was talking to the whole group. She was propably talking about her majesty, Britney. Even if the latter is not here she must have given Lucy the task to keep her in the spotlight. Sometimes I wonder if she is her bestfriend or slave. On the contrary Nate, Joey's closest mate, seemed rather sad. I guess he was genuinely worried about them.

Suddenly a snap of fingers brought me out of my day-dreaming. It was Rick. Rick Cobert was a bit like our third wheel as he was a part of the nerd and the jock category. He always takes his lunch with us when he doesn't have football practice and he also has a huge crush on Jenny but the latter never seems to notice it. Frankly speaking, he is rather cute with his short dark brown hair and his highly noticeable dimples when he talks and smiles.

"Hello girls! Missed me?" he asked joyfully as he sat at our table.

"You have no idea how much Rick darling!" Jenny replied sarcastically.

"Aww.. I'm so touched by your honesty," Rick teased back with his hand on his heart and we all laughed at his dramatic pose.

"Well, I would love to catch up but right now I have to go to the... library. See you later!" I bade them as I got up to leave thus giving them some time alone. I truly think they make a nice couple. Rick thanked me through a glance and a wink which Jenny fails to notice.

Leaving them on their own, I make my way to my favorite place; the music room.
