After about ten minutes, Niall heard a knock on his hotel room door. He had changed out of his polo and khakis as soon as he arrived at the room. He was now wearing shorts, a tank top, and a green snapback and had been lounging on the couch while watching a bit of American television. The hotel room was a complete mess but, he didn’t care. Niall was just about to turn on his computer before he heard the knock.
He got up from the couch and after checking to make sure there weren't any crazed fans at the door, let Liam into his room. Liam had also changed and was now wearing khakis and a red Ralph lauren sweater. Upon seeing the mess Liam said
“I knew your room wouldn’t be too organized but, this is a disaster.”
“Oh, Shut Up!” Niall replied jokingly.
“So what’s going on with you?” Liam asked, getting right to the point.
Niall’s expression changed almost immediately. His face was practically unreadable; he looked like a mixture of nervous, annoyed, and happy all at the same time.
“Come here, I’ll just show you.” Niall said after a minute. He moved toward his computer which was now open and resting on the coffee table in front of the couch. Niall turned on the silver Macbook Pro as Liam took a seat next to him. As it booted up, Liam took out his iPhone and checked his mentions on twitter, attempting to reply to at least a few of One Direction’s dedicated fans. Niall logged into his email account and began searching for the email. Upon finally finding it, he scrolled down to the first email which dated all the way back to September and handed Liam his laptop without saying a word.
Niall watched Liam’s expression as he read and scrolled through each letter exchanged between Niall and Marygrace Gabriel, the girl Niall had clearly fallen for. At first, Liam looked confused but, as he continued reading, his faced softened. He read for almost thirty minutes; there were about forty emails between them, some only one line and others were over three paragraphs.
Their exchanges had first started when Niall was scrolling through his private email account about two months earlier and had noticed an email from a girl named Marygrace who he’d never met before. Curiosity had gotten the better of him and he’d read through the email, which had been about seven lengthy paragraphs long. She had accidentally typed in the wrong email address and had written a letter to her ex-boyfriend Brendan who had apparently cheated on her with one of her best friends a week earlier. She was both crushed and furious and had written the letter to get her feelings off her chest. Ordinarily, Niall would’ve never replied but, she seemed so hurt. He felt for her and wanted to make her happy. The emails were only on a friendly basis at the start but, when they began talking often, he felt himself falling for her. They’d gotten to know so much about each other. Her favorite color was blue, she was an outgoing blonde, she was 5’4”, lived in New York, was eighteen, and had a silly obsession with Winnie the Pooh. She knew that he was Irish, liked to sing, was insecure about his height, was sensitive but, carefree at the same time, played the guitar, loved to eat, and loved rock and swing music. There was only one thing she didn’t know-his real name. She was the only person who liked him for who he was and Niall was too nervous to risk their relationship. He’d told her his name was James, which wasn’t a total lie. She’d already asked for his phone number and he had to tell her that he wasn’t allowed to give it out. He felt bad but, he wanted to meet her first. One Direction had a show booked for next week at the Beacon Theater in New York City. They would finally have a chance to see each other after two months of never having met.
When Liam finally finished reading, he looked up with a smile spread wide across his face and his cheeks were up as high as his eyes-Liam’s typical excited face. A few seconds passed before Niall finally spoke.
“What?” Niall said innocently. In reality, he was really surprised that Liam seemed happy. Normally, Liam was the most sensible out of the boys. He was always looking out for everyone, after all he was the only one who noticed Niall wasn’t his usual self. Niall had expected to be scolded by Liam for giving out so much information to a stranger, and especially for falling in love with a girl he’d never even met. After all, it was a little risky.
Liam put his arm around Niall and looked him directly in the eye.
“I’m so happy for you Niall!” he exclaimed, his smile growing even wider. “You’ve been single for so long,” Liam said “I can’t believe you’ve fallen in love.” It was Niall’s turn to smile.
