Accidentally in Love {Chapter 21}

The five girls sat practically on top of the stage and in a row.  They had the very first row and seats in the center aisle.  Jessie and Danielle sat on both sides of MaryGrace while Eleanor and Perrie were on the other side of Danielle.  Jessie sat in an aisle seat while the seat next to Perrie hadn’t been claimed yet.  The doors didn’t open up for soundcheck for another ten minutes.  The girls had already been sitting there for forty minutes after the boys had said there temporary goodbyes and had been shuffled off to meet and take pictures with their dedicated fans.  Jessie and MaryGrace had talked for the first twenty minutes they’d been sitting there, discussing everything from christmas gifts to the paper they had due just before Christmas as Eleanor, Danielle, and Perrie were talking about a British singer, Ed Sheeran, that neither Jessie or MaryGrace had heard of.  Eventually everyone had just started talking together, mostly about the boys.  After all, it was the most evident common interest.  After Danielle had finished talking about how she’d met Liam, MaryGrace felt it was her turn since they’d been going down the row.

“Niall and I actually met online,” MaryGrace said with a little nervousness in her tone.  She wasn’t sure what they’d think of her, since the whole “meeting-someone-you-met-online” thing really is dangerous.  Perrie raised an eyebrow at her, seeking further explanation.  “This is kind of embarrassing, but I was sending my ex-boyfriend an angry email just after he cheated on me,” she said, pausing when Eleanor gasped quietly “and it was accidentally delivered to Niall’s email address.”  

“Wow,” she heard Danielle mutter.  Jessie was just sitting back listening, she had been hearing about this since it first happened and was just enjoying hearing the story again.  

“I still don’t even know how,” she explained hastily “I must’ve messed up the email address or something,” she said trailing off.  “Anyways, Niall ended up reading the email and feeling sorry for me, so he replied trying to comfort me,” she said now flashing a dazzling smile at the thought of the sweet blonde.  “It really was nice of him,” she said with a content sigh  “and we just ended up emailing back and forth and really clicked.”

“Awww!” Danielle exclaimed.  “That’s really cute!” she said with a grin.

“I wish I met Lou like that!  We just met at a party!” Eleanor joined in.  MaryGrace ended up blushing.

“and that’s massive luck!” Perrie continued with emphasis.  

“Our first date was actually last night,” MaryGrace continued the story, fueled by the interest of her audience.  “We already knew an awful lot about each other, though so it wasn’t like we had only just met.  I actually didn’t know if it was going to be a date or not until last night.  You really can’t tell by an email,” she said laughing to herself.  It felt good to talk to some new people for once.  Everyone at school had known her for so long; they’d been through everything together, including fights.  It was like a breath of fresh air to talk to girls who were actually interested, or at least acted interested, in knowing about her.

“Well I’m really happy for you two!  I was wondering where Niall was sneaking off to last night.  He was talking to Liam in the hallway before he left, but I didn’t want to be too nosy,” she said giggling.  

The floor seats had started to fill up with eager fans who had finished the meet and greet.  Every single Directioner wore a look of pure bliss after having just met their idols.  They were all talking to each other saying things like “I just can’t believe we just met the boys!” and “Did you see Louis put his arm around me?!”.  It was quite entertaining for the girls to listen to, since they were around the boys all the time.

“Gotta love the fans,” Perrie said with a contagious laugh and soon all five girls were giggling along with her.  MaryGrace had noticed that the bass player, guitarist, drummer, and keyboard player had taken their place on stage.

“I think soundcheck is starting soon,” she said to no one in particular.  Two members of the stage crew walked around the stage putting microphones in place and moving wires.  

“Are you guys ready for a band we like to call...” he paused, adding a bit of dramatic effect “ One Direction?!” he shouted excitedly into the mic.  Screaming and cheering ensued in the audience.  The boys were the next to enter through the stage door and step out to greet everyone.  As soon as they appeared, the chatter echoing through the Beacon Theater had dwindled to complete silence, but only for a few second.  After that, the cheering started right up again.  Echoes of “WE LOVE YOU!” rippled through the ecstatic crowd.  Niall was first to speak.

“Hey everyone!” he said into the microphone pausing to listen to the fans.  “You guys live in one of the most amazing places.  I’ve always wanted to play New York City,” he revealed much to the happiness of the concert goers.  “There are so many amazing things and people in this city.” Niall said looking at MaryGrace briefly.  She smiled to herself as color filled her up her pale cheeks.  “Anyways, we’re gonna play three songs for you, alright?” he finished, but his accent made it sound like “Alri?”.  The first few notes of Use Somebody rang out through the theater as the fans screamed with recognition of the song.  Harry’s voice filled the room as he opened up the song, with Louis singing the next few lines perfectly.  The notes of the chorus rang out backing up the perfect harmony of the five talented boys.  Then it was Niall’s turn to sing.

He looked right at MaryGrace as he sang with pride and happiness radiating from his angelic voice.  She couldn’t even believe what was happening in front of her eyes.  An international star was signing to her.  The girl felt an indescribable warmth inside her when she heard his voice.  The flawlessness of that moment filled her up with joy, and this was only the first song of soundcheck.  Right then, she knew how amazing the night would be.
