“Here we are!” Marygrace announced with excitement. The tree was enormous and it’s multicolored lights glittered in the night sky. Families and couples stood scattered throughout Rockefeller Center taking pictures and enjoying the scenery.
“Wow.” Niall muttered, with his head titled upward as he took in the whole scene. He’d never seen anything like it before.
“It’s beautiful, don’t you think?” she questioned him. “I see it every year and it never fails to amaze me. I just love Christmas!” she admitted with a huge smile. He didn’t answer, but the look on his face was enough. He was clearly amazed.
When he finished staring up at the tree he looked back at her. He couldn’t help, but stare at her. Her face glowed in the light of the Christmas tree and her eyes sparkled even more than they had earlier. She continued to look up at it and hadn’t noticed him admiring her. The corners of her lips were turned upwards into a smile. Niall’s train of thought was interrupted by a light tap on the shoulder. In a split second he worried that a fan had noticed him, but he was surprised when he turned around. A middle aged man with a camera stood behind him smiling.
“Would you like a picture, sir?” he asked. He had a button pinned to his jacket that read “Photos: $2”. Niall tapped Marygrace on the shoulder. She finally took her eyes off the tree and noticed the man standing there.
“Yes!” she said, her voice bursting with excitement. Before handing the man the two dollars, Niall took off his sunglasses for the picture and fixed his scarf so that it was no longer covering his mouth. Luckily, the camera man didn’t seem to recognize him.
“One, Two, Three.” the man counted down. Niall smiled with his arm around Marygrace. She had her arm around his waist and leaned her head towards him. They both looked so incredibly happy to be with each other, like the perfect couple.
“Looks great!” the photographer assured them as he handed Niall a yellow card that said Kodak on it and featured a barcode. “Just head to the kiosk right over there to get your picture.” he said pointing to the small yellow stand.
“Thanks.” Marygrace and Niall said in unison as the man approached another group of people. Niall put his sunglasses back on and fixed his scarf. They both walked towards the stand, excited to see how the photograph had come out. Niall handed the employee the card and the photograph came up on the screen.
“Wow! That came out great!” Marygrace exclaimed at the sight. The tree glittered in the background of the photo. Both of their eyes sparkled in the photo as they smiled from ear to ear.
“It really did!” Niall agreed. The woman handed them one wallet sized photo and Niall frowned. “There’s only one,” he said with a hint of disappointment in his voice.
“That’s New York for you!” Marygrace said laughing. The sign on the cart advertised a larger photo for an additional ten dollars. As soon as he spotted it, Niall reached into his pocket to grab his wallet. He handed the woman the ten dollars without hesitation. She printed a large photo and put it in a manila envelope. Niall handed the envelope to Marygrace.
“It’s yours.” he said with a smile. “I’ll keep the small one.” he said, placing the small photo in his wallet. She smiled up at him.
“Thanks so much, Niall,” she said, giving him a hug. Niall hugged her back. He wanted to stay there for as long as possible.
