The taxi cab pulled up in front of a quaint little coffee shop that looked similar to Starbucks.  The sign above the doors read “Central Perk.”  Through the window, Niall notice that it was filled with several couches, a coffee table, and regular restaurant style tables.  They even had a bookshelf in the corner with a sign that read “Borrow One.”  Customers sat around the cozy shop eating, drinking, and chatting.  Niall paid the taxi driver and tipped him a fairly generous amount as he exited the vehicle.  He also put on his sunglasses, worried that someone would recognize him.  He felt his heart skip a beat.  He couldn’t believe that he was finally going to meet her.  As he walked into the shop, a small bell rang at the top of the door.  He scanned the room looking for a blonde of average height.  Marygrace had also said that she had green eyes.  He spotted two blondes in the room but, one looked much too old to be eighteen.  On the other hand, the second blonde was beautiful.  She looked to be about 18 years old and was reading a book.  She wore burgundy colored jeans along with a plain black long sleeved shirt under an oversized beige sweater.  She had a deep red floral scarf styled around her neck and wore black boots.  She sat on a large couch with her legs crossed and her jacket casually thrown beside her, while her purse lay on the floor.

Niall wasn’t sure how to approach her.  A small part of him was worried that it wasn’t Marygrace, but instead he felt himself walking towards her.  He took a seat next to her on the couch, being careful to keep a comfortable distance, just in case.  She continued reading and kept her head down while tucking a piece of her wavy blonde hair behind her ear.  Niall continued to look around the coffee shop in an effort to blend in.  He fixed his scarf so that it still covered a bit of his face, but was low enough that you could still see his lips, chapped from the biting cold air.  As he gained the courage to speak to her he felt a sentence escape his lips as he turned toward her.

“Hi, I’m sorry, but are you Marygrace?” he said before he could change his mind.  As soon as he said it, he made eye contact and couldn’t look away.  Her eyes were big and green and he was lost in their sparkle.  She smiled at him and a girlish giggle escaped from her lips.

“I might be,” she teased “depends who I’m speaking to.”  Niall froze.  What should he say?  James?  Niall?

“Well, you know me as James,” he said trailing off, not really sure of how to continue.  Her eyes lit up with joy.

“It’s really you?” she said with obvious excitement in her voice.  He smiled assuringly.  She leaned in to hug him hello.  He wrapped his arms around her and gave a one of his infamous “Horan Hugs.”  He’d only spoken two sentences to the girl but, had already fallen for her.

“So what are you doing in New York?” she asked, putting away her book and turning to face him.  “And what’s with the sunglasses?” she continued, laughing.  “It’s so dark outside!”  Niall realized that now was the time to tell her.  He was nervous but, he knew it was the right thing to do.

“Actually, there’s something I should probably explain to you about myself,” he said slowly gaining confidence.

“What could it possibly be?  I feel like I know so much about you.  We’ve been talking for so long, I’m just glad I finally get to meet you James.”

“Well that’s just it.  There’s something I haven’t been completely honest about.” Niall replied.  “My name’s not really James, it’s Niall.”  He said taking off his sunglasses, making sure he was turned only towards her.  He hoped that everyone in the coffee shop was too distracted to notice him.  As soon as she looked over his face, she gasped quietly.  “I don’t know if you’ve heard of One Direction, but I’m one of the members of the band.  I’m only in New York for the week because we’re on tour.”  He’d said it.  He was happy to have gotten it over with it, but was worried about how she’d react.

“Wow.” was all she could manage, taken aback.  “I was definitely not expecting that.” she said.  He couldn’t detect any anger in her voice so far.

“I’m sorry.  That’s why I couldn’t give you my phone number until we met.  It’s only for safety reasons.  I’m probably already in enough trouble for sneaking out.” he said laughing a bit.  He looked at the wall for a moment, thinking of how he and the boys often fooled around with security.  He turned back and his eyes met hers.  “I hope you’ll forgive me.”

“What’s to forgive?  I’m not mad, if anything, you’ve made the situation even better.” she laughed.  Niall couldn’t help but take note of how sweet she’d been to him both over email and in person.  He was so happy that she was accepting and understanding.  Her last sentences had made him like her even more.

“Thanks, I appreciate it.  I was worried you’d be mad or a crazed fan or something like that.” he said.

“No problem!” she exclaimed “I love your music, though.  I’ve been listening to you guys since Up All Night came out in the UK.  I can’t believe I didn’t realize it was you.  You’ll have to sing for me one day.” she said flirting with him.  Niall blushed, completely flattered.  He heard compliments from fans all the time but, it wasn’t everyday that he was complimented by the girl he’d fallen for.

“Aww, thanks.” Niall said shyly.  “Definitely, I’d love to sing for you,” he smiled.  “So what kind of coffee do you like?” he asked, changing the subject.

“Oh I don’t like coffee, I just assumed you did.” she said laughing again.

“That’s funny,” Niall said smiling “I don’t like it either.  Do you want to go somewhere else instead?”

“Absolutely.” she said smiling even wider.  It turned out that Niall wasn’t the only one who’d already fallen in love.
