-----------------------------------

"We are going to have to break off from everyone. He will die otherwise." Jyrgen could hear Penny yelling at someone. He smiled a bit. She was fighting for him. At least, he hoped that's why she was showing her adorable stubborn streak. She sounded passionate too. He was tempted to stay quiet longer just to see what else she'd say.

"I disagree. If we do not keep moving, we are going to get caught. I doubt these people will be brought back to the camps. They will be executed." The other voice wasn't familiar. It was masculine, and determined.

"Both of you just let me think." Aldrik sounded stressed. For a brief second, Jyrgen felt bad for him. Of course he was responsible for putting all of them in this mess. Maybe he didn't feel quite that bad for him. Nah, the stress was good for him. He wasn't the one that had some stake rammed through his body.

"I know you would like to have the time to be able to think, Aldrik, but we just do not have that time available. If you guys need to stay here with him that is fine, but I need to lead these people out of here. For their safety." The voice sounded so much more stable and rational then Aldrik's. Obviously it wasn't someone that Jyrgen knew otherwise he would be in the same boat with the other two.

"Nolan, with all due respect, shut up." Aldrik snapped at the man. "I am not saying that you are wrong, or that your idea is bad, but we need to think this out."

Nolan... He remembered Aldrik talking about the man. He'd been impressed. The guy had good leadership skills. If anyone were to take over leading, that man would be a good choice. Jyrgen wasn't quite ready to show he was awake yet; he wanted to see how these guys would handle the situation before making his alertness known. There was no need to interrupt them yet.

"I think he is right, Aldrik. They should continue on without us. There is no way that Jyrgen should be being moved right now, and there is no way that I am letting him out of my sight." He could almost hear the sincerity in Penny's voice. No matter how strong she sounded, he could sense the brokenness. She did care about him.

"You think I do not know that, Penny." Aldrik's words were harsh. His patience was clearly thinning. "But if we stay here, we will not survive. I am not saying that I will not fight, but we will be outgunned, outmanned, and outnumbered."

His heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly when Penny's sniffle couldn't be missed. She was crying... for him. Aldrik was right though. Things would not go well if they stayed there. "Please tell me you three have not been bickering the whole time I was unconscious. It sounds rather unproductive."

Silence greeted him. Perhaps he had mistaken there being voices there. Maybe he'd been imagining it all. Nope, nope, not possible. He wouldn't have still felt the abrasive pain radiating through his side if it had been a dream.

"Jyrgen!" Penny's body enveloped him as she embraced the fact he was awake.

"Hey, Pen. I am all right. I am glad to feel you against me right now. I thought maybe I was dreaming that you guys were here talking." He immediately regretted the chuckle that left his lips. Groaning, he reached to his side protectively. "How about that kiss now?"

Pulling back from him, she had her hand propped on her hip. It was hard not to notice the tear streams etched into the dust that was still smudged on her face. "I promised you..."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you promised not to give it to me until we were safe, but in all reality, are we ever truly going to be safe. I think I deserve a kiss after all of this." He knew his chances were slim given how stubborn she was, but feeling the soft warmness on his own lips proved him wrong. He could taste the salt from crying on her lips as she sucked away all of his oxygen, replacing it with passion. He almost forgot about his wound as he reached up and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer to him.
