When the gateway first appeared, nobody knew quite what to do with it.
When strange beings started to crawl through it, it raised more questions than it answered.
A few brave souls dared to venture through it, anyway. And they came back with glorious tales of strange worlds and breathtaking adventures.
As it turned out, an ancient race across the universe had long ago built the technology to travel far and wide in the blink of an eye. This planet just had been the latest travel destination added to their long list.
But of course, magnificent technology like that cannot exist without ever falling into the wrong hands. Thus the Great War of the Gateways ensued.
