174. Humiliation

The young dragon stared wide-eyed at the crowd gathered around him. Where it had started as a chuckle, they were now all roaring with laughter.

All that, because the little dragon had failed to set a bush on fire with his breath. Instead, after trying to breathe flames, only glistening water had spouted all over the forest floor. As it dripped away through the soil, he could feel his heart sink with it, the demeaning laughter still ringing in his ears.

It took him years to realize, that there might never have been anything wrong with him after all. Maybe dragons were just not meant to be all the same.
