He had so much to be thankful for. And yet, as he watched the sun set beyond a renewed skyline, all he felt was a bottomless pit of sadness inside.
He knew the cause, that wasn't the issue here. All the pain he felt was due to the fact that he simply cared too much. That he loved too much, people who were bound to get hurt sooner or later.
Perhaps he should have been thankful that even his ability to love and care had its bounds. Maybe he should have been working towards caring less.
But in the end, he found himself unable to do so.
