Chapter 13

Valerie’s P.O.V.

“Ashton, what could you possibly need?” I ask, a smile on my face.

    “I miss you.”

“I’m sitting in your driveway. Luke hasn’t even started the car.”

“Is it a crime to miss you so soon?”

“I never said that, but I really have to get home and you need to sober up.” I say. Luke looks over at me and rolls his eyes with a laugh before pulling out of the driveway.

“But I am sober.” He defends himself.

    “No, you’re not.”

“Valerie Hart, I am sober enough to miss you and that’s all that matters.”

“I just need to get home. You can come over later. Maybe for dinner. Give Patty a well deserved break after last night.”

    “Okay.” Ashton answers. “What time?”

    “I don’t know. Like, five?”

“Sounds great, Valerie Hart. I’ll be there and sober.”

“Great.” I tell him with a laugh. “I’ll see you then.”

    “I’ll see you then.”

    “Bye.”

    “Bye.”

    I bite my lip. “Bye.”

    He laughs. “Bye.”

“Is this really happening?” Luke asks from the driver’s seat with a laugh.

“Ashton, I’ve got to go. Luke is being a little shit.”

“Tell him I say to stop being a little shit.”

“Ashton says to stop being a little shit.” I tell Luke.

Luke rolls his eyes. “Just hang up the damn phone.”
“I gotta go, Ashton. Luke’s gonna freak out.”

Ashton laughs and then groans. “Fuckin’ hangovers. Alright, I’ll see you later, Valerie Hart. Bye.”

“Bye.” I say. Luke grabs my phone out of my hands and hangs up and I roll my eyes. I take my phone back from him and fold my arms across my chest. “Are you jealous, Lucas?”

“Nope.” He says with a smile. “You two are just really annoying.”

“Well then.” I tell him with a laugh.

He rolls his eyes. “Where’s your house?” He asks.

“Oh yeah.” I tell him. “You’ve never come over.”

“No, I have not. And I need directions.”

“Don’t be an asshat, Luke.” I tell him with a laugh.

He rolls his eyes with a grin. “Just tell me where the damn house is.”

So I give him directions and he drives me to my house. I invite him in but he says he really should be getting back to help Michael, who apparently gets the worst hangovers, sober up and get back to his house. Then Calum and then Ashton. I tell him my prayers are with him and he laughs before pulling out of the parking space and driving away.

I walk up to my apartment and grab my keys out of my pocket. I open the door and see my mother sitting at the kitchen table, drinking coffee.
