Chapter 22

Valerie’s P.O.V.

I wake up the next morning incredibly warm. I nuzzle further into Ashton’s chest as he snores quietly. I sigh contently and look at the time. We’re late. I sigh quietly and take a deep breath.

“Ashton. Wake up.” I whisper. Luke said Ashton’s a heavy sleeper. Dammit. “Ashton.” I say, louder. “Ash, wake up.” He doesn’t react. “Ashton.” I whine. “I don’t wanna yell and wake my mom up. She’s gonna kill me.” I sigh and start tickling his sides. He jolts awake with a loud giggle and I put my hand over his mouth, widening my eyes. He nods and I pull my hand away. “My moms’ here.” I whisper.

“Did you have to tickle me?” He asks, a lazy smile on his face.

“Yes. You wouldn’t wake up and I didn’t wanna yell.” I say, brushing some hair out of his face.

He closes his eyes and smiles. “What time is it?”

“School started like an hour ago.” I tell him with a frown.

“Let’s not go.” He says quietly.

“Ashton-”

“I just wanna stay here all day.” He whines, throwing his arm over my waist and pulling me closer to him.

“We’re gonna miss so much work.” I whine.

“It’s just one day.” He whines back. “Please, Valerie Hart?” He runs his hand down my arm, taking a hold of my hand and tangling our fingers together. “Just today?”

I groan and rest my head on his chest. “Okay. My mom’s still home though, so she probably thinks I left so we just have to keep quiet and-”

“Valerie! Are you still here? Your bag is in the doorway!” My mom calls out.

Ashton chuckles and I glare at him. He gives me an innocent smile and I sigh. “Yeah mom, I don’t feel good. I just got my period?”

Ashton snorts and I slap his arm. He winces and pouts at me before bursting into a fit of giggles as I feel heat rushing to my cheeks.

“Oh, are you feeling okay? Do you need anything?” She calls out.

“No, I took some medicine earlier. I’ll be okay. Have a good day at work. Love you!”

“Love you too!” She calls out. The front door shuts and I sit up.

“Ashton, what the fuck?” I ask with a laugh. He sits up too and I shove his chest gently. He laughs.

“Are you having cramps, Valerie? Do you need me to buy you chocolate and sappy movies?”

“Shut up.” I groan, resting my head on his shoulder.

“I’m hungry.” He whines.

“I’m on my period. Make me something to eat.” I deadpan.

“Damn.” He says with a laugh, bursting into a fit of giggles.

“I missed your laugh so much.” I tell him with a small smile.

“Don’t remind me.” He whines. “I was such an asshole.”

“No, you had every right to be mad-”

“Ignoring you for a month wasn’t fair.” He says quietly, playing with my fingers. He sighs. “I hope you can forgive me.”

“Of course I do.” I tell him quietly.

“I don’t deserve your forgiveness. Or you.”

“Ashton, stop.” I tell him quietly.
