Chapter 17

Valerie's P.O.V.

"Valerie."

I keep walking forward.

"Valerie, please, stop." He whines.

I don't.

"Valerie. You've ignored me all fucking day. In Ms. Jones class, at lunch. You sat with James, for fuck's sake. Please, just listen to me for three seconds-"

"What, Ashton?" I ask, stopping. He catches up to me.

"Can you please just-"

"Ashton, really, I'm not in the mood for us to get in an even bigger fight, okay? Just-"

"I'm sorry." He says. "I'm so fucking sorry. I can't say it enough. Please, just forgive me. I'm such a fucking asshole. Please just stop ignoring me, Valerie."

"Ashton-"

"Listen, I know I've been in a bad mood these past couple of days, but I'm over it, okay? It was such a dick move of me to snap at you. I'm sorry, okay? I won't do it again. You ignoring me is killing me, Valerie. I like you so much. Like, a lot. I just feel like an asshole in general. I wanna apologize for everything. Like the fact that I only kissed you at the party and that I haven't brought it up since and the fact that I got you grounded for a week and that I've been such an asshole lately. Please just, forgive me. I'm such an asshole. Fuck."

"Ashton." I say quietly. "You're an asshole."

"I-"

"Shh." I say, rolling my eyes. "You're an asshole, but I can't be mad at you. It's like, impossible to be mad at you, okay? You're like a damn puppy."

"So you're not mad at me?"

"I'm kind of pissed off, but I'm not like, mad at you."

"Great." He says, running his hands through his hair.

"I'm gonna head to my dad's. I'll see you later, Ash."

"Wait, can you hang out?" He asks.

"I guess so." I tell him. "I mean, I'll have to ask my dad, but I'm sure he'll say yes."

"I wanna make it up to you." Ashton says quietly.

I look up at him, my eyes wide. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Not like that." He clarifies, clearing his throat awkwardly. "I just wanna hang out. Just you and me."

"Okay. Let me ask my dad." I tell him quietly. I text my dad and he responds immediately. Sometimes I wish he wasn't always so close to his phone. "Well, he said yes, so... I'll see you at your house?"

"Yeah." He says quietly. "Drive safe, alright?"

"Yeah." I tell him with a gentle smile. I walk to my car and start it. "Stupid. Stupid. Stupid." I groan, throwing my head back against the seat. I turn up the radio and pull out of my parking space. I drive to Ashton's house, humming along quietly to the radio. I pull into his driveway and see his car is already parked. I park the car and lock it, throwing my keys in my bag. I walk up to the door and it opens before I even knock. Ashton gives me a big grin and I smile gently back at him. "Is it okay if I put my bag in your room?" I ask.

"Yeah, go for it." He says quietly.

I nod and run up to his room. I set my bag down and slide my phone into my pocket. I walk back down the stairs and find Ashton in the living room, turning on the television.

"What are we doing?" I ask, taking a seat on the couch.

"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. We're gonna sit here and watch tv and that's all."
