Song of the chapter: Canticle of The Sun.
I don't know about this..., Rachael thought. I know I'm making tremendous progress with my weight, but a part of me wants to, while the other part doesn't...help me, Lord, I need Your guidance. Rachael thought then prayed those words.
"May I help you?" Someone who looked like a priest came into the Saint Matthew's Catholic Church.
"I--I--" Rachael stuttered, not knowing what to say.
"Come," Father comforted. "What seems to be the matter?"
"Well..." Rachael began, forming her words carefully, "I'm not sure exactly. I mean, I lost my mom and best friend six months apart...I'm just confused...does He hate me?"
Father sat up. "Well, no," stopping for a moment, and chose his words carefully just like Rachael did, "No, He could never hate you. He loves you. He's in here." He pointed to his heart. "He's testing your faith. I know He'll want you to succeed. He protects you."
"Oh," Rachael looks down, feeling very shameful. "Then why's He testing me?"
"To see how strong your faith is. That you believe in Him strong enough."
"I believe in Him strong enough...I thought I would've died a year ago."
The priest was flabbergasted. Then, Rachael started telling the story of her anorexia and how Robert comforted her. She also told him about her mother dying and as well as Alana. After what seemed like hours, she took a deep breath, as if inhaling the good and exhaling the bad.
"Do you feel better?" The priest asked.
"Yes. Thank you, Father."
"Father Jacobs. John Jacobs. I hope you'll join us for Mass tomorrow."
"Nice to meet you, Father Jacobs." Rachael thought for a moment about the priest's offer. "Yes, I'd like to. It'd give me a chance to praise Him and to thank Him for helping me through this."
"Good. I'm glad. See you tomorrow, then. What's your name?"
"I'm Rachael. Rachael Winters. I'd like to hear your homily tomorrow, Father Jacobs."
"Thank you. Nice to meet you, Rachael. May He forever bless you and keep you out of harm's way. Lord, please protect this young woman on her journey towards health and towards happiness. May You guide her and help her succeed. Amen."
"Amen, and, thank you, Father Jacobs for your help."
"No problem. It's also my job to listen and to offer help. I must go, I'm sorry."
"Thank you, Father Jacobs. It's okay. I'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye, Father."
"Goodbye."
Father Jacobs then walked away.
Rachael stood at the center of the cross where Jesus was. She said a quick prayer, thanking God for saving her as well as to keep her and her family safe.
