Sabia:
Saved by the bell. Well, not actually the bell. After that night with Jake, I was afraid that maybe I was going to get pregnant, but a week afterwards, my period started. I had never been so happy to see it. A long time ago, I had promised my mom and dad that I wouldn't have kids till I was married, and thankfully my body decided I was still going to wait. Needless to say, I was not having any more dates with him at the house.
The Friday after the date, Ellie got her stitches out, and I had a dinner date with Jake. We went to a fancy restaurant, and, being a gentleman, he paid. I had a nice Cesar salad, and Jake ate a New York Strip Steak Medium Rare. It looked so discusting. How could anyone eat like that?
"How can you eat that?" I asked him.
"Sorry if it churns your stomach. I've always ate it like this. My parents used to freak out about it. Well they're actually my adoptive parents."
"I know how you feel. My parents used to flip out because I wouldn't eat meat. I've always found it discusting. Actually I found out recently that they're my adoptive parents. How long have you known about yours?"
"Since I was ten. As a threat to get me to behave, they used to tell me that they'd take me back to the orphanage."
"I found out little over a week ago. Actually, it was the day before I met you."
"That long before they told you. Hell, my sister used to tease me about it. She was born three years after they adopted me."
"I don't have any siblings. My parents can't have kids. I envy you."
"Nah, siblings are so annoying. Although, my sister did learn rather quickly not to bother me."
"Why?"
"I used to somehow summon these skeletons that would pop up in her closet and stuff like that. Boy would she freak out."
"That's mean."
"Hey, I never claimed to be nice."
"How did you do it? Summon the skeletons that is?"
"I've never really known. I'd just get real angry, and there they'd be. I always wondered if maybe one of my birth parents was Hades or something."
"It would fit," I laughed.
We talked for a little while longer, and then Jacob drove me home. We kissed at the car then I ran up to the house. Teddy and Ellie were excited to see me. I took care of them then headed to my room. As I sat down on my bed to change into my pajamas, I saw a folded piece of paper on my night stand. On the top was written my name in a handwriting I had never seen before. I opened the paper and it said,
"Dear Sabia,
I hated having to leave you all those years ago, but your existence could not become common knowledge to my family, and especially to your father. It has now come to the point where I can no longer keep you safe from the horrors that await you. Tomorrow, meet me at the library of your school at noon. I'm sure you'll know me by sight. I can't wait to talk to you.
Love,
Your Loving Mother."
I wondered who she was, and most of all I wondered what she meant about the horrors that await me. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
