Chan wasn't the typical average human. In fact, he wasn't human at all. He was a vampire. A pure blood vampire.
Chan had really pale skin, his body temperature was pretty much that of a corpse, he couldn't expose himself to sunlight and the only thing that could sate his hunger was blood. His eyes turned red only when he craved for blood and his hair was a simple brown color. Unless he transformed, Chan looked like a normal human being.
But Chan never drank blood. Not after the incident.
When he was still a small kid, he thought he was human until the moment his hunger became so unbearable that his instincts took over and he killed his foster family. He didn't want to, but he had no control over himself back then.
Since that day, Chan had been living in self hatred and had secluded himself from the rest of the world in an old castle deep into a forest, which was said to be haunted, so not many people entered it. He thought he was a monster and no matter how much his vampire nanny and mentor tried to convince him to embrace the fact that he was a vampire and needed human blood to survive, Chan abstained and tried his best to live like a normal human being.
The young vampire took suppressants which allowed him to function normally without craving for human blood. He also drank some wine, since that was the only thing that provided at least a little bit nutrition for his body, but he could never get drunk nor feel it's alluring taste.
Chan lived alone, since that was how vampires lived, but he did it because he was also scared of hurting others. At first, he didn't feel so lonely because his mentor was there by his side, but the man had left to travel around the world when Chan was only 15 and hadn't visited him ever since.
Now, 5 years in loneliness didn't seem as bad because the young vampire had gotten used to it. He spent his time researching suppressant pills and also looked for a way to become human. Other than that, he read books in the library or played the piano because music was something he quite enjoyed. Chan also took strolls around the forest not just for fun, but to make sure that no human would wander into the forest and accidentally discover his castle.
He wasn't aware that his life was about to change.
One day, as Chan slept peacefully in his room, unsuspecting of anything, the huge wooden gate to the castle creaked open and a figure sneaked in.
Now, vampires had excellent hearing and could sense humans nearby, therefore it wasn't surprising when Chan stirred in his sleep and quickly woke up when he sensed that something was inside his castle.
Swiftly and stealthily, Chan moved towards where the being was. He decided that he would observe first before deciding what to do.
"Hello? Is there anybody here?" The creature spoke.
It was actually a human, Chan noticed. A young boy, to be exact. But what would a boy be doing alone in this place? Unless he wasn't alone. But Chan didn't sense anyone else. It didn't make it less weird though.
The human looked around and slowly walked toward the big staircase which was situated right in front of the wooden gate. The boy seemed a few years younger than Chan, he looked very handsome with the freckles that dotted his face and the big round glasses that stood upon his nose.
"Hellooo..." The human called again.
He passed right by the pillar where Chan stayed hidden in the shadows, unsuspecting of the fact that he was being watched by the owner of the castle.
The vampire had to either kill this human or lock him away. He couldn't let the stranger go, not when he was aware of this place. But Chan thought he'd decide what to do after he scared the boy by showing him his transformed self and seeing the human's true colors under fear for his life.
