Prompt: an auThis world didn't differ much from life as we know it, but there was one thing that distinguished it from everything known. People were divided, much like the three social classes, into alphas, betas and omegas. They found out what they were on their fifteenth birthday and it determined how their lives would play out. Needless to say, alphas were the best of the three. They were guaranteed a good life, alphas were born leaders and usually got well paid jobs such as politicians. They were determined, strong willed people who had the power to change the world. They were also adored by everyone and so, every parent hoped that their child would present as an alpha.
The next were betas. They stood lower than the alphas in society, but were also higher than the omegas. The beta people had good lives, not as grand as the alphas did, but they still got well paid jobs. They were not as popular as the alphas and didn't stand out as much, but parents were content if their children turned out to be betas. After all, most people presented as betas.
And finally, omegas. They were considered to be the lowest among the three. The reason was because they lacked the strong will the alphas did and weren't considered to be exactly bright in terms of intelligence. Moreover, they were rather weak and easily cowered in front of the alphas and betas. Another drawback was that they had a sweet, alluring scent which made any alpha lose their mind with desire. Thankfully, society had developed suppressants for the omegas, helping them avoid becoming 'a snack' for some alpha. Betas weren't affected as they couldn't sense the omegas' scent. With that in mind, a lot of omegas worked as 'entertainers', their sole purpose being to please the needs of alphas and betas. Every parent dreaded the idea of their child presenting as an omega because that meant their life would be ruined.
Another thing was that alphas and omegas had mates, a significant other that was determined by nature. However, in a world where omegas had the lowest social status it was impossible to follow the natural law. Therefore, regardless of mates, alphas and omegas married according to status or developed feelings, not to mates.
This was the kind of world in which Han Jisung lived. He was eighteen years old, a beta. The boy was a last year high school student. Jisung wasn't popular, he was just your average guy. His friends joked that he was secretly an omega because of his kind hearted nature, but he always dismissed them. Jisung wasn't particularly fond of omegas, as he had been taught that they were nothing more than mere animals. He imagined that his life would be normal, Jisung would marry another beta, he would work in an office until he saved up enough money to start his own small business - open a restaurant, he would eventually have children, etc, etc. But things never went as planned.
It was late at night and Jisung was on his way home. Unfortunately, he had to pass through a shady neighborhood in order to reach home. He had to walk because it was too late for public transport. Jisung wasn't scared though. He was a beta, he wasn't weak.
As he walked casually, Jisung heard a noise. Being the curious guy that he was, he thought he'd check it out. He made a turn for a tiny dark alleyway. Jisung was careful not to make any noise. He finally saw what caused the noise. There were several guys beating up another. One of the bullies caught Jisung's eye. He was kind of short, but his aura was strong enough to compensate for his height. The guy had a sharp jaw and beautiful features despite the fact that his face was bruised. His face was stern and his eyes were malicious, yet there was just something beautiful about him. And Jisung couldn't take his eyes off him. The guy's presence was strong. He seemed to be the leader of the bullies. And Jisung guessed he must be an alpha.
The alpha must have sensed Jisung's gaze on him, because he'd turned around and locked eyes with the beta. His eyes narrowed, giving him a rather feral expression. But then his lips tugged into a smile that screamed trouble. And yet, Jisung thought he was beautiful.
