The baby was now 4 hours old and Lily had her in bed while I was upstairs trying to set up the baby monitors so that Lily would be able to hear her from down stairs. Forget about the safety measures they are designed for, Lily's purpose for wanting them is so that she can hear her at all times, as she was going to have to stay down stairs in the spare bedroom.

Putting off my suggestion on a new baby name couldn't wait any longer I just wanted to name her, to make her special and so that I don't have to call her well her, it, she, baby etc. It was time for my daughter to be given a name. I walked downstairs and into the bedroom to find Lily asleep with our daughter in her arms wide awake. I walked over and took her so that she would be at the risk of falling and sat down in the rocking chair by the window, I couldn't wait for Lily to wake up before I made my suggestion.

I looked out towards the window at the new garden and the ruins off our old neighbors properties, the village I once called a home was nothing but rubble. I knew that if I wanted to build and buy the land now would be the time. I would have to go to the village across and visit the land-ownership retailer. I would be able to get all the land for a very cheap price. I moved my arm so that my daughter was now looking out the window towards her future. That's when I started to explain my plain 'Hey, baby girl. This might not look like a home out there but it was before you arrived and we will make it one again. When you're running around in a year or two this will look completely different. You will have a playground, swimming pool, candy store and so much more. I will bring the world to you and you will want for nothing. The land that I hope to buy will allow us as a family to start a fresh and your mother and me will be able to pass on some of our work to you so that you can one day you may pass it on too.' My daughter who couldn't understand a word I was saying was holding on to one of my fingers and squeezing tightly. For a few hours old she had a mighty grip on her, just like her daddy.

A noise from the bed made me turn around to find Lily watching us and smiling. She has caught me playing and saying all of my hopes and dreams for our daughter's future. I stood up and pulled the chair over to the bed. I sat down with the baby and said 'I want to ask you something okay?' Lily nodded and I paused, trying to think of what to say and how to put it. Before talking I passed the baby to her mother.

'I have been thinking and I love our original baby name for a girl I really do but I have another suggestion. If you don't like it and want to stay with the name Sawyer-May then I will be more than happy but I wanted to voice this one or I would regret not bringing it up. How do you feel about the name Katerina-Hope?' I was so nervous that what was probably a few seconds felt like an hour. Lily looked at our daughter and then at me and then said 'I love it, It's perfect, you've made my perfect moment in time.' I let out a breath and looked at Lily, with love and affection in my eyes. Our daughter had a name. I stood up sat on the bed with my family and said 'Hello Katerina-Hope. Welcome to the family.' Lily corrected me and said 'Katerina-Hope James'. I smiled at her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

I must have drifted asleep as I woke up to a cry, I didn't twig to start with but once I opened my eyes I saw the creation of the sound Katerina was crying. I moved of the bed and looked at Lily, she looked lost. 'Hey, are you okay?' 'What am I doing wrong? She won't stop crying.' 'Don't panic baby, you're doing great. Do you think she's hungry?' At the mention of food she stopped crying and that was our answer. We hadn't talked about breastfeeding or bottle feeding but that was up to Lily not me. I left her to decide and went into the kitchen to prepare some dinner. Chicken pot pie, I was thinking. I made the pastry and put it to rest and then started on chopping up the vegetables. Once the vegetables were prepared and cooking I diced up the chicken and added it to the pan. Leaving it on a low heat I walked upstairs and grabbed a nappy, baby grow and the carry cot. Taking them back down the stairs and into the bedroom, I needed to put them in there for Lily. She was sat in the chair by the bed with Katerina in her arms asleep. They looked peaceful and happy. I could tell as Lily had her truly happy smile on her face one I hadn't seen in a very long while.
