Let's go!!! I don't have all day, we can't be late. I will leave you! my mom yelled throughout the house. She was more excited about orientation then I was. I swear I should have convinced my dad to get her to go early with him but he swore up and down that it wouldn't be bad. And I should really kick myself in the ass for believing that bull... But he is to go early because he was getting inducted into the universities hall of fame for athletes and had to go with his management team to finalize some papers, but he told me they really wanted him out there to schmooze some athletic donors and they knew that the only way they would get him out there. So here I was about to take a 3-hour road trip with my mom, Imani, and her mom. Looking up at the ceiling I pray for a mostly silent drive. Because both our mothers together were worst then them individually.
I'm coming mom, I just have to call Samir before we go... "boy you can call him in the car, we are on a schedule and I have things to do." She said walking into my room while I was waiting on Samir to pick up my FaceTime call. Looking at me she shook her head. Jonathan why are you still on the bed?.. she asked with an annoyed faced.
"Hey what's up baby?"
Looking from her to him on the phone I smile. But she walks over to me and snatched the phone. Hi, honey, I'm fine, she said smiling. Now listen, I'm on a schedule and you're holding me up, so unless you want your "baby" to be lit on fire by my belt I suggest you tell him to get his ass in my car... okay?! She said smiling into the phone and throwing my phone on the bed. I shook my head and look at him smiling. Hey, I said waiting for him to respond.
Are you ready for orientation, he asked? I shook my head as I put my laptop in my bag and he smiled. What? I asked confused. What you mean what, I can't smile and be excited for my man? He asked waiting for my response.
Yeah, you can, I'm just a little bit on edge, riding with them was not what I was envisioning. All they're going to talk about in the car is Greek life and most importantly their beloved sorority. I'm quite frankly not prepared, to be honest.
He laughed and licked his lips, well yeah but you have to consider how busy your mom is. Not only is she a full-time wife and mother babe... she's a boss ass lawyer too. So she's probably just excited to finally be back on her old stomping grounds... he laughed. Omg, you sound just like her, I said shaking my head.
Hey, she's passionate and she's got some good as stories. But look I do want my baby to come back to me in one piece so hurry up and leave so she doesn't flip shit... I'll text you.
Smiling I look at the screen and he licks his lips again... I love you I said still smiling.
He winked and said I know, bye! Wait.... *click*
No, the fuck he didn't... I thought to myself standing their shook.
Walking out to the car, I get a text from Imani telling me to hurry up and that's she here. I roll my eyes and head out.
The entire ride our moms are reminiscing about there college days and how their sorority did this, and that. I honestly respected what they did but growing up with a crazed obsessed grandparent and a mother could get exhausting. My grandmother wasn't so bad but my paw paw and mom... smh.
We weren't even 30 minutes into the ride when they started talking about the men on campus when they went there and I honestly wanted to hear about this so I took my headphone out and Imani sighed and pleaded for them not to get into it... I looked at her crazy and she sighed and texted me.
My mother's going to get all upset and talk about my dad and how he cheated and then get all mad again and probably call him and cuss him out. It always how it goes. I shook my head and replied, I doubt it, hun. She shrugged and sighed.
