"My mam misses you, yanno," Will mused, holding my hand in his as we walked through and around the park together.
"Really? Thought she would hate me after we broke up,"
"God no, you're like the daughter she never had," he paused for a movement, thinking. "We should go up to Newcastle soon, me and you,"
I was a little taken aback honestly. I wanted to go, of course, but was it too soon to go on a trip together? I glanced at his face until his expression changed.
"Unless it's too soon..." he suddenly said, and I think what he said just hit him.
We were friends first though, right?
"I'd love to, Will. She better cook something good when we get there though,"
"Bacon sarnie for our arrival, and her classic beef stew for tea?"
"Sounds good, William. How does this weekend sound?"
"Can't wait," he smiled. With a kiss, we began our walk home.

"Will!" a voice yelled, and Will's head snapped towards his house.
Cas and Will, both small 7 year olds, were sat on the street curb outside of his house trying to decide what to play next. There were only so many times they could play polo, crocodile and it.
It was a sunny Monday afternoon in their summer holiday, and Will was desperate to kill the time. He and Cas were doing loads of crazy stuff together in the holiday, and that day was one of the days they were doing nothing. Cas, however, didn't want time to go fast. She didn't want to go home, not that she would go into why, or tell anybody.
"What've I done now?" Will muttered to himself, rolling his eyes. Cas giggled.
He headed towards the house and went in to see his mother in the kitchen.
"Will, do you want to invite Cas for dinner?" she asked with a weird look in her eyes. Will recognised it from when she'd talk about sad things, but he couldn't quite decide what was so sad about Cas or dinner.
"Yeah, I will, but mam, why do you look sad?" he asked, sitting down at the table. His mum sighed and sat on the chair next to him.
"Cas' life at home isn't very easy, Will, and I want her to feel at home with us. Do you think we can do that for her?" she said quietly, and Will nodded eagerly. This made Mrs Lenney smile - she had come to feel Cas to be a second child to her and was glad Will was such a compassionate little man.
"What's for tea then?" he stood up on the chair, looking on the stove top. His face suddenly lit up and a beaming smile crossed his face. "Stew!"
He quickly got up and ran outside, almost tripping as he made his way to Cas.
"You wanna come over for tea? We're having my mams stew and it's the best!" he said breathlessly with a grin still on his face.
"I haven't had stew before, is it nice?" Cas, still sat on the curb, asked him. She had turned her head slightly towards him.
Will sat next to her, feeling his belly go funny and his heart go weirdly fast.
"It's the best food ever. Seriously, Cas,"
"Ok, I'll try it then," Will grinned again, and felt his heart go faster.
He got up quickly and helped Cas up, blushing as their hands touched. Side by side, they ran in to the house together and sat at the table, rambling about the sort of things that 7 year olds ramble about until dinner came.
Later that evening, long after Cas had left, it was almost Will's bedtime. As all children have a million of at this time, he had a question.
"Mam?" he said as he sat next to her. She put an arm arm around him and smiled kindly.
"Whenever I'm near Cas I get a fluttery heart and weird belly, do you think I'm poorly?"
Initially, Mrs Lenney was a bit concerned. But then it hit her. Her little baby was having his first crush.
"You have a crush, Will, on Cas. It's normal, and I promise you, you're not poorly," she gently kissed his forehead. "But it's bedtime, so up to bed we go."
And with that, Will went upstairs to bed, not knowing that this summer would be his last with Cas for years to come.
