You've been working in Mrs. Lovett's Pie Shop for a few months now, alongside a younger boy called Toby. And you have to admit, you do have a huge crush on the barber who lives and works upstairs, but you don't know if you want to admit it to him, although you think Mrs. Lovett may have noticed. You blush whenever he walks past you, and you struggle to speak to him sometimes when he addresses you directly.

You're closing up the shop late one night, when you see Mrs. Lovett behind you in the reflection of the glass.
"Mrs. Lovett?"
"(Y/N), can I talk to you for a minute?" she asks.
"Um, yes," you say. She sits down at a table with you.
"I've noticed you seem have taken a liking to Mr. Todd," she says.
"Is it that obvious?" you ask.
"You're not exactly subtle," she laughs, "I'd be happy to help you our if you wanted me to."
"Would you?" you say eagerly.
"I'd be happy to. I can set us a nice little dinner here for you both, you can spend the night together."
"How should we convince Sweeney to join me?"
"I'll tell him we're all meeting up here, but me and Toby can't stay, so you two can enjoy the night together."
"When should we arrange it. Soon, but not too soon, I think."
"I'll arrange it for a week today."
"Thank you, Mrs. Lovett."
"Any time, dear."
Mrs. Lovett leaves and you finish closing up the shop and head home, excited about the conversation you just had.

The day of the date gets closer, and you keep getting more excited and nervous. Mrs. Lovett has made arrangements with Toby and Sweeney, and Sweeney is the only one who doesn't know that it's a date. Sweeney keeps walking past you, and he seems to be more pleasant than usual. He says 'hello' to you when he sees you, and tries to make small talk with you if you're alone together. You're not wholly certain why he's being so nice, but you appreciate it nonetheless.

"Mrs. Lovett, is Sweeney alright?" you ask Mrs. Lovett one day, after Sweeney goes upstairs.
"Yes, dear, why do you ask?"
"He's been unusually nice to me this week."
"In what way?"
"He says hello to me when he sees me, and he talks to me when we're alone together. It's just a little unusual for him, that's all."
"I wouldn't think much of it. He's always a little nicer if he's in a good mood."
"I suppose so."
You leave to go and help Toby serve customers. You know Mrs. Lovett is probably right, but you're not fully convinced. It's only you he's been nice to, not everyone else. You can't help but feel like there's something more to it.

The day arrives. It's finally here. The day of the date. You've been waiting for it all week, getting more and more nervous and excited each day. You help Toby close up the shop, and you and Mrs. Lovett prepare for the dinner. You set the table and wait for Sweeney to arrive.

"Hello (Y/N)," says a gruff voice. Sweeney sits across from you.
"Hello Sweeney," you reply. As you sit in a moment of awkward silence, Mrs. Lovett approaches you.
"Looks like me and Toby can't stay, but please try to enjoy dinner without us," she says. She and Toby leave the shop, and you and Sweeney are left alone.
"Well, we may as well make the most of tonight," you say as you take a drink.
"Yes," Sweeney says.

You end up talking all the way through dinner, enjoying each other's company. You leave the shop after dinner and walk the streets, completely losing track of time, until you realise how dark it is, and how far from home you are.
"It's dark. We should probably go home," you say.
"I'll walk you home, (Y/N)," Sweeney says.
"I think it's this way," you say as you head off.

You walk the streets until you make it home, and you turn to say goodbye to Sweeney.
"Thank you for walking me home," you say.
"It's no problem, (Y/N)," he says, "perhaps we could do it again?"
"I'd be agreeable to that," you reply, "perhaps next week, same time?"
"Next week."
You plant a quick kiss on Sweeney's lips and go inside. You smile to yourself as you walk into your home. You get another date with Sweeney, one which he wanted. As you sleep that night, you dream about a future with Sweeney, one which seems more real by the minute.
