I don't think Ben thought I was being serious but I was. I'll take him where ever he wants, as long as he's happy.

"Well, how would you get the money to?" he asked as we walked into the house. I sat at the stool at the counter as he started placing the food into the fridge.

"I have my ways," I said as I popped off the top of my beer bottle and took a few sips.

"What ways?" He asked as he put the plastic bags under the sink.

"Illegal ways," I said as I drank from my bottle. He gasped and looked up at me. I quirked a brow at him and set down my drink.

"Just kidding," I assured and he glared as I took another sip.

"No whiskey this time?" he asked as he stood across from me and crossed his arms on the counter.

I shrugged simply and drank some more.

"You should get drunk with me." I grinned and he rolled his eyes.

"As if," he said as he started to walk away.

I grabbed his wrist and pulled him over to me before he could get too far. I wrapped my arms around him and put him on my lap. He blushed as I nuzzled my nose into his neck.

"Don't worry so much," I muttered.

"Worry? About what?" He asked defensively as he turned his head away from me.

"I can see it. Your all worked up by my drinking but you shouldn't be. I'll be okay." I said reassuringly but he wasn't buying into it.

"Okay, okay?" he asked as he pushed away a little. I looked up at him.

"No, you won't. I know what drinking does to the liver and all that, I'm not dumb. Plus you smoke and stay up, and have nightmares all the time." He continued naming off things that were wrong with me and for some reason, it made me mad. Made me feel an uncomfortable level of vulnerability.

"Wait, wait, what? Nightmares?" I asked as my grip on him loosened.

He looked down at me blankly.

"Well, yeah." He shrugged.

"You think I didn't notice?" He asked, half laughing.

"Notice what?" I snapped and he noticed my voice turn angry and he gulped. The atmosphere changed and became cold and not so casual. My throat felt like it was tightening.

"Well, in your sleep, you like... move around a lot and whisper names and stuff, so I assumed you were having nightmares." He said slowly. Carefully. Trying to say the right thing as to not set me off.

...

"Mhm," I said as I turned and drank. He looked at me puzzled.

"Am I wrong?" He asked.

"Guess not," I said.

Ben pursed his lips at my sudden change in behavior.

"You okay?" He questioned as he lost his balance on my lap. I wasn't holding onto him as tightly anymore so it was hard for him to stay completely on.

"Yeah, Jesus," I said kind of loudly. He became quiet and clamped his mouth shut.

I sighed as I gripped his waist and pulled him securely onto my lap. I slide him around so he was facing me and his legs were pressed on each side of my outer thighs. I smiled up at him as I gripped his chin and ran my fingers gently across the soft skin. He shuddered.

"Sorry," I whispered quietly with a true, genuine tone in my voice.

"I don't know why I'm so on edge lately," I shrugged as I said so softly and he nodded as he rested his head onto my shoulder comfortingly.
