I continued to walk down the dirt road holding Smile Dog, Ben walking by my side silently.
I looked over at him. He looked very focused on something and was just looking straight ahead, not noticing my gaze.
I sighed and looked back down at Smile Dog. He's fast asleep but I was still worried about him. His wounds were still bleeding slightly, and his left paw still twisted the wrong way.
I rubbed his head and he shifted his weight as he repositioned in a more comfortable way. I cocked an eyebrow as I eyed the marks on his neck and side.
These aren't just normal Dog marks.
He usually gets into some fights with other dogs but never marks like these. He's a strong wolf and can easily beat his components.
Plus the other animal left him injured and didn't kill him. It's like they wanted someone to find him like this. Like they wanted me to find him like this.
Well. Maybe I'm just over thinking it.
I gritted my teeth as I looked back at his wounds. They were starting to piss me off. Why would someone even think to do this? Do they have a death wish???
I looked at Ben, he was now staring at me. I didn't even notice.
"You okay?" He asked, taking note of my aggravated expression.
"What? Yeah obviously. I just have stupid suspicions. Nothing much." I said, stopping in my tracks and gripping Smile Dog in my hands.
Ben starred off, not understanding what I meant.
"Well, I don't know I mean. Look at these marks. You've seen him with a couple of scratches or bruises before, nothing to severe-but these?" I paused and held Smile Dog away from my chest and pushed his fur from his wound. He winced and a small squeak left his throat as I showed Ben.
"Well, it's just. I don't know." I shrugged, hoping Ben would kind of understand.
"Why do you have suspicions?" He asked.
I sighed and brought Smile Dog closer, his body heat radiating into my arms, the sun warming up his fur.
I looked at him and Smile Dog met my gaze. He looked right into my eyes. It's like he's trying to tell me something.
"I just know..." I said quietly, and Smile Dog let out a low growl.
Ben eyed me staring at Smile Dog and him to could see how distinct the wounds were inflicted.
"Yeah." He said. Finally agreeing.
Smile Dog looked at me, his ears perking upward.
His current state is the worst I've ever seen him in but at least he was still conscious. He was still breathing but.
I just wanted him to Smile again.

We reached my house and I quickly got into my car. Ben got into the passenger seat, and I laid Smile Dog in my lap and he still slept silently.Ben didn't make eye contact as he just looked out his window.
"Ben," I said as I pulled out from my driveway.
