Chapter 30: I have fallen for you in every way possible, Princess
"I've been in here for days! I want to speak to Derek Blackwell!"
I repeatedly rammed my hands against the door. The bandages around my knuckles began to seep with red again.
I screamed again and then grabbed a chair and smashed it against the wall. This was the third time I had done that. I glared fiercely at the camera in the wall.
"Tell Derek to come here right now."
I was, of course, met with silence.
I had been in here for days. Locked up and caged in like a wild animal. Derek hadn't come back after that first day I had woken up and it infuriated me as well as scared me. My mind went crazy with all the questions running rampage.
I sat down with a heave on the tiled floor and glanced at the table. A tray of untouched food sat there. My stomach grumbled but I refused to eat. I wasn't going to sit here and let them keep me locked up and play along with whatever Derek was planning.
I threaded my fingers through my knotted hair. The doctor – Steven – visited me every day and yesterday he had taken the gauze around my head off. He wasn't much of a talker and did what he had to do before leaving.
He was my only visitor, other than the guard who gave me my food. They wouldn't let me leave this room unless I had to go to the bathroom. The two guards positioned outside my door would accompany me down the hallway and wait outside the bathroom. There were no windows in there and nothing I could use to fight my way out of here.
I dragged my tired body to the bed and laid down. My body was healing, incredibly slowly given that I wasn't eating much. I only ate when I knew I was going to pass out and I continued to drink a lot of water. The bruises on my face were fading, but I couldn't say the same for my battered body. My skin was purple and blue and dry.
They didn't let me take a shower but Steven had given me a plain shirt and sweatpants to wear a few days ago.
Confusion ate at my insides. Derek had taken me and I didn't understand why. HAC had gotten me ready for a situation where I would be tortured and pressed for answers.
But this.
This I did not expect.
I didn't understand why Derek had patched me up and there was a doctor here taking care of me. I didn't understand why I was being given food and allowed bathroom breaks.
And not knowing was driving me crazy.
Everyday I screamed to talk to Derek and every time I was ignored.
The wooden stake lay beneath my mattress and gave me comfort. Only a little.
I heard keys jiggling and I shot up. I gripped the mattress and stared at the door in anticipation.
Derek Blackwell emerged with an easy smile playing on his lips. I glared back.
"I hear you've been wanting to talk to me."
I stared at him. "Yes, I fucking have."
Derek flickered his gaze around the room and smiled at the broken chair. Then he narrowed his eyes at my untouched food.
"You haven't been eating," he stated.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "Why are you keeping me here? What do you want from me?"
He looked at me and then turned around. "Get up."
I stood up warily and followed behind him. The two guards flanked at my sides and I rolled my eyes when I noticed a taser on one of the guards. Even in my weak state, I could still take them.
