Chapter 9: I don’t bite. Well only when provoked
On Saturday morning, I stirred awake with a stomach ache. I groaned in pain and shuffled out of the sheets. It was that time of the month again. That wretched week where I felt like absolute crap and I did nothing but watch Netflix with a hot water bottle as my best friend. Guns and punches couldn’t keep me down, but this call from mother nature completely weakened me.
After freshening up, I checked my watch: 9 am. It was a decent time to wake up on a Saturday morning. I clutched my stomach just as a knock came. Mary stepped into the room with a smile which vanished when she noticed my grimace.
“Mary, you mind getting me a hot water bottle?”
Understanding flashed across her grey eyes and she nodded. I sat down on my unmade bed as she left and picked up my phone, deciding to call Travis. It was around two in the afternoon in London right now.
“Hey, loser,” Travis greeted.
I groaned in response. Travis chuckled in return.
“Let me guess, you have cramps?”
“No, it’s something worse. I’m dying!"
Travis laughed at my words. “Paracetamol, hot water bottle and Netflix should do the trick."
Travis had grown accustomed to my behaviour and antics during my period; he was after all the one who provided me with the hot water bottle and junk food while I was miserable in bed.
I talked to Travis for a while before he handed it to Dylan.
“I had chocolate pancakes!” Dylan exclaimed, his tone laced in excitement.
I laughed at his words. “That’s great. I hope you enjoyed them.”
“Did you have them too?” He asked, referring to our traditional Saturday breakfast.
“Not yet, but I will,” I assured.
After talking to Dylan, I hung up just as Mary came back with a hot water bottle. I shot her a grateful smile when she handed it to me and got up as she tided my bed.
“Do you know where Aiden is?” I asked.
Mary nodded and fixed the pillows. “He’s in the backyard, playing with Crystal.”
Huh, I didn’t expect him to wake up so early.
“Can I have breakfast up here? I don’t really feel like going downstairs to eat this morning.”
Mary smiled. “Of course. I’ll bring it right up. Any preference?”
My answer was instant. “Nutella pancakes.”
After Mary left, I grabbed a hoodie to wear over my top and snuggled up on the sofa. I grabbed the remote and turned on the tv, flicking through the channels until I came across The Big Bang Theory.
I hadn’t sat down to relax like this since I got here but cramps changed that. I wasn’t crazy moody during my period, nor did I have any cravings; the only side affect was my cramps.
