Chapter 35: You better not give up on me, on us

Aiden's POV

I felt my breath lodge in my throat at the sight of Vivian.

My Princess.

She lay immobile, all bandaged up and broken.

I slowly sat down on the chair beside her bed. A deep breath left my lips as I held her bruised hand in mine.

"Hey," I whispered.

I leaned down and pressed my lips against her pale knuckles.

"I missed you."

She didn't move and I didn't expect her to. My blood boiled at how much she was hurt. There was no part of her skin that looked the same – bruises scattered her face and arms and I knew the rest of her body looked the same beneath the hospital gown. She had a case around her entire right leg and her forehead was wrapped in a thick layer of gauze. The right side of her face was also bandaged.

The doctor's words of her condition rang in my ears.

"She has a bullet wound on her thigh and a stab wound over it, which will make her unable to walk for a while."

"Broken ribs."

"Fractured nose."

"A concussion."

"A broken jaw."

"Bruised throat."

The sight of her chest rising and falling slowly, and the sound of the heart monitor put me at ease.

"You need to wake up, okay? The doctor said it's up to you now," I said softly and stared at her still face. A mask covered her mouth and nose to help her breathe.

My voice cracked as I attempted to speak again. "You promised. You said when this was all over you would tell me that..."

I exhaled heavily and kissed her hand again.

"I love you. Two months. That's all it took to fall completely in love with you. So you better not give up on me, on us. Because we still have the rest of our lives left."

I squeezed my eyes and dropped my head against her hand.

"Wake up, Princess. Please."

I sucked in a shuddering breath and let my eyes roam over her sleeping face once more. I pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead.

"I'll see you soon," I whispered.

I rubbed my hands down my face and left the room.

Sebastian sat talking on the phone and looked up to face me. His eyes flickered over my bloodshot eyes, and then he spoke into the phone and locked off.

Sebastian saved her. And I couldn't thank him enough.

He stood up. "I'm going to pick Travis up after I see her. Her brothers are at the airport."

My brows rose in confusion. "How did they get here so quickly?"

"Travis was already on a plane on his way here, and saw our calls and texts about Vivian being at the hospital when he landed."

I nodded at his words. Her brothers were here. That's good. Maybe hearing their voice would wake her up.

Sebastian moved towards the room and I sat down on a chair. I don't know how long I sat there for, but when a hand touched my shoulder, I looked up. Mom sent me a sad smile and passed me a cup. I looked down to see it was coffee.
