After the third day of VidCon, Keith and Y/N were ready to fall asleep. Or, at least Keith was. He couldn't help but notice that ever since the two went home from VidCon, everything about Y/N had felt kinda off. Every time he tried to ask her what was wrong, she would just brush it off, saying that she was fine.
Keith sighed and sat up. "Y/N, what's really going on?" he asked his girlfriend.
"I told you, it's nothing. I've just been having an off day I guess," she replied, using the same excuse.
Keith sighed again. "You're really not going to tell me?"
Y/N was silent for a minute and Keith laid down again.
"You know the girl who gave me that huge marble that I love?" Y/N asked. "Her older sister met me yesterday and told me that the girl had cancer. This morning we met again and exchanged phone numbers, and a little before we left, Nicole, the older sister, told me that she had visited Eva, the younger sister. It turns out something had happened and Eva's cancer... Nicole told me that the doctors said she'd need a miracle."
"I know that I haven't even met Eva in person, but I'm really worried about her," Y/N explained.
"It's okay," Keith said. "There's not much we can do for her, but I'm sure that your support is more than enough."
Y/N sighed. She still seemed upset, but Keith knew she felt better after telling him about what was bothering her.
"Thank you," she whispered. Keith wrapped an arm around her waist as a silent 'you're welcome,' and Y/N fell asleep.
---
The next morning Keith and Y/N woke up like normal, and began their morning routine like they would any other day. The anniversary of their first date was growing closer, and Keith did have an idea of what he wanted to do.
But, for the time being, Y/N was going out to spend some time walking around the mall with a couple of friends, followed up by a movie and dinner, and Keith was planning on spending some time with the rest of the Voltron crew, as they always did after VidCon.
The team, with the exception of Allura who was also spending time with Y/N, had all gathered at Shiro's house.
Pidge had thrown herself across the whole of Shiro's grey love seat, with one arm and a leg hung over the side of it, while her other leg was draped over the armrest and her other hand was busily typing on her phone. Keith was sat on the couch at one end, with Shiro on the other, while Lance sat in one armchair and Hunk sat in the other. Coran was standing up with one hand behind his back while the other twirled his moustache.
As they talked about random things and took turns playing Pac-Man on Shiro's huge flat screen TV, which Pidge had magically rigged to be able to play original console games on. Lance was playing Pac-Man, even though Shiro had an actual arcade machine fully working not even five steps away from where Lance was seated.
Keith got nervous as the conversation took a sudden turn to his and Y/N's anniversary. It was still a couple weeks away, and her present was being made at that very moment, but the days seemed to be going by much faster than he had expected and he was growing nervous.
"So?" Lance asked, suddenly dragged away from his Pac-Man after finally losing. "What are your plans for your anniversary? Romantic dinner? A week in Paris? A cruise? C'mon, tell us."
"Uhhh, it's a surprise," Keith replied. "Her gift's not even ready yet."
"You can tell us, we're not gonna tell her," Hunk said, scooting closer to the edge of his seat.
"He doesn't have to tell anyone if he doesn't want to," Shiro told everyone. He was one of the only two people Keith had told what his plans were, and Shiro had been super supportive of his adopted little brother's decision.
"Lame," Lance said. He turned his attention back to the TV and screeched. "How did you already beat my high score?!" he asked Pidge, who had taken the console from Lance.
"Easily," was Pidge's only response. The light reflected off of her glasses so that nobody could see her eyes.
Lance rolled his eyes and crossed his arms in a pout. After seeing that Pidge seemed indifferent to his actions, he turned away from her with a huff.
"Anyways," Keith said, attempting to steer the conversation away from his anniversary. "Pidge, what's Matt up to? I didn't see him tagging along with you at VidCon, so I'm just curious."
"Yeah, doesn't he usually stick by you during these things?" Coran asked.
Pidge shrugged. "Something came up with one of his friends and so he finally decided I was old enough to go on my own," Pidge said. There was a slight hint of irritation in her tone, but everyone knew that she loved her brother.
With that, the conversation spun off in different directions, which Keith was thankful for.
This chapter is late and I know it is. I have a good reason, I swear. My explanation? I completely forgot about this up until literally 2am today so y'know.
Try and guess what Keith's planning. Whoever guesses correctly/closest to the answer will get... uhhhhh... a shoutout maybe? Praise? Acknowledgment? A follow of I haven't followed you already? Idk
