Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing with this one. Let's go along with it and see how it turns out.

Bright lights shine around me as I dance with my partner. The wedding is beautiful with the gold decor, and my gold and white dress. All my friends around me, smiling and congratulating me on my newfound love. One set of eyes catches my attention though. His gaze causes goosebumps to rise on my arms, and a chill to go down my spine. He stands off to the side, closest to the wall, wearing a black and gold suit. It fits him painfully well.

"Whats wrong, my love?" My partner notices my hesitation for the next moves. A smile crosses my face, and I lie through my teeth.

"Nothing, mon amour."

Hours pass, and most people are intoxicated by now. Except me, of course. The royalty do not drink on their wedding night.

My husband walks into the crowd to get us water, and my friend decides to make an entrance. "Hello (Y/N)."

He says as he takes my husband's seat next to me. I give him a smile despite the chill that runs across my body. Butterflies erupt in my stomach as he stares at me.

"Do not stare, mon amie. It's rude." A chuckle escapes his throat at my words.

"Darling, it's hard not to stare at something so, ah what's the word, magnifique." Another smile crosses his face, and I can't help the one that makes it's way onto mine.

"Excuse me sir, you're in my seat." A familiar voice says. My smile drops as I look up at my husband, clad in the same gold and white as my dress.

"Ah yes, excuse me, I will take my leave." Craig says and leaves. My gaze settles on my spouse.

"Isn't that the man you almost married? But you didn't because your family wouldn't let you?" He asks. I laugh and shake my head.

"No, my love. That is just one of my knights-" Another lie- "He came to congratulate us."

My husband chuckles, showing off his white teeth. He leans close to me and whispers into my ear. "I hope you're ready for tonight." As much as I hate to admit it, a small amount of disgust runs through me.

I should he looking forward to the honeymoon, but I'm not. This whole wedding is not what I want. Nothing I do tonight is what I want.

"Please excuse me." I exit quickly and look for the man I do want, but I can't seem to find him. Every hallway, every room, and he's nowhere to be seen. Tears run down my face as I leave the grand hall, going to the courtyard. The bright lights of the palace are left behind me as I flee from my own wedding.

The courtyard is bleak, desolate, and I find comfort here. I'm able to think. My parents set this wedding up. I never wanted to be with that man, he's not the one I love. And because of my parents I lost the only person who truly made me happy. He could turn my dark days around, make me smile when I wanted to cry.

Where has he gone? Why must I always lose the ones I care for? Why can't my parents let me be happy?

"(Y/N)? What are you doing out here?" My mother's voice asks. I turn to face her, tear stains still on my cheeks.

"I can't believe you made me do this. Mother, why can't you just let me be happy?! Why can't you choose me over what you think is best for the kingdom?" My sobs echo around me. It's hard to live in a world where everyone wants you to be a certain way. Everyone making your decisions for you.

"Why did you ruin my life?" Barely a whisper, but she still hears it.

"You do not get to decide what happens here. I am the queen, and I do what I feel is right. You will go back in there and act accordingly. Apologize for leaving and never speak like this again. Do you understand me, child?"

Child.

She treats me like a child.

Everyone treats me like a damned child. Her words cause anger to flow through my veins.

"No," I say through gritted teeth. "I will not do something I don't agree with. I will not let you ruin my life when I could be happy. I'm more important than what you feel is right. You should let me be happy, let me make my own decisions." I leave before she can answer. My heels click against the marble floors as I walk back to the ballroom. The doors slam against the walls.

Silence.

"I'd like to make an announcement-" All the attention is on me- "I don't love the person I married tonight. I never loved him. I am revolted at the fact I married him. I was forced to do this by my mother. The one I love has left. I will never be able to get them back. I'm sorry everybody. You may leave."

Surprised shouts fill the room, and I take my leave.

I make my own decisions now. And as the only child of this kingdom I will be the next queen, husband or no husband.

"(Y/N) what did you do?" A calm voice asks. I turn around to see him. Fear is evident in his eyes, fear for me, my future.

"I couldn't marry you because of my family, I couldn't make my own decisions, but now I will. You can join me, we can love once more. Or you can go. I won't force you to stay." Our eyes meet, and he nods. Assuring me that he will follow me.

We walk together, away from the angry guests. Away from the ballroom. Away from my husband.

And to our future.
