"Jiro."

The blond woke up with a jolt, his wide hazel eyes hidden in the darkness behind his golden locks. He quickly slammed a hand against his chest, feeling his heart race with the strength of a bull. He was a panting mess, gulping as he looked around but could see nothing but black inside the dormitory of Madam A's base.

"Jiro." A soft, broken voice slipped past his ears, and even in that darkness he immediately zoned in on Emi's silhouette at his bedside.

"Sweetie, it's late." He whispered, rubbing tiredly at his eyes. "What are you doing up?"

"W-Well, Shin's talking in his sleep again, a-and he can't stay still." The girl breathed in, trying to hold in her hiccups. "Knocked me off the bed."

The blond groaned, muttering a quiet 'idiot' directed at Shin's sleeping state as he quickly opened his arms, enveloping Emi in the warmest hug only he was capable of producing. The girl's small arms immediately coiled around his frame, her head burying against his toned chest as if his embrace were the safest of havens.

"Wanna crash with me tonight?" He whispered, letting his heavy eyelids drop as he set his chin atop Emi's head. Said girl only shook her head in refusal, her shaky breaths being drowned into Jiro's shirt. The male could feel the unsteadiness of her heart as it slammed against his skin in an attempt to break free and hide from whichever beasts lurked in the shadows that consumed them.

"Wanna stay with Ryuu then?" Emi's grip tightened aggressively against Jiro's unsuspecting body, almost making a coughing fit emerge from the boy which he tried to supress for the sake of the others who were sound asleep.

"O-Okay! Not with Ryuu either." He wheezed, attempting to regain his lost breath as he buried his face against the girl's soft hair. "Holy shit." He panted.

"Sorry." Emi mumbled, making a small smile appear against the blond's lips despite his exhausted state.

"Don't worry, Emi. I'm okay. You have to do more than that to hurt the great Jiro." He teased, blowing a raspberry against her neck. The action was immediately regretted when a loud giggle burst through Emi's lips, making the blond tense up for a millisecond before quickly taking action and pulling the girl under the thin bedsheets provided for the elites. A clang was heard right from the spot Emi had been previously occupying, and Jiro sighed in relief as he heard no other movements after it. He had no idea of what had been thrown at them, but he was glad none of the others had fully woken up.

"So watcha wanna do then?"

And that's how they ended up sitting on the floor of the weapon room, a simple candle standing in the middle of the two as its warm colors casted shadows across both figures.

Emi had refused to go back to sleep, fully aware of the darkness that overpowered her ever since Shin had accidentally woken her up. As a result, a tired Jiro was forced to carry her tense figure to the room they currently occupied, blindly searching for a candle as he whispered soothing words to the girl in an attempt to calm her down.

"You did so well, Emi." He smiled, the sweetness in his tone mixing with the warm glow of the candle. "You're holding yourself better in the dark now."

"I am." The girl grinned proudly, her knees tucking against her chest as she rested her chin atop them.

"I'm closer to getting over my fears now." She whispered, shifting her gaze toward the blond. "What about yours?"

Jiro blinked in surprise, his gaze flying around the room in a desperate attempt to look for the right words to deliver. A hand unconsciously came up to brush at his strands that sat messily atop his head.
