A soft dripping sound rang through the room like the haunting tune of a delicate melody, enveloping the boy's ears as it etched into his brain. The room was silent. Dead silent. For a normal person it wouldn't be a problem, it would probably be enjoyable in fact.

To Ayato Sakamaki, however, it was the most terrifying experience he'd ever had.

The agonizing screams of the previous day replayed over the redhead's ears like a scratched record as his body shook entirely, his heart slamming against his chest as he squeezed his head tighter with each passing second. Nothing he did could erase the images running through his head, no matter how hard he tried.

From the moment his eyes slid open a few minutes ago the boy had come to the conclusion that having his eyes gouged out with a fork was better than waking up to the sight he witnessed.

There he was, lying in a pool of his own blood and completely bare, but he couldn't find the strength to move from his spot. It was almost as if he'd been glued permanently to it, the dry red substance keeping him in place.

That was the least of his worries, however. The image that got his heart racing was not his own, but the boy across from him was to blame.

Blood splattered the grimy walls of Rei's dark cell, seemingly covering even the tiniest crevice. A putrid stench irradiated from it, the one responsible for making Ayato throw up on himself for the second time already.

The scariest image was the body slumped right in the middle of the room, but Ayato was no longer sure if it was the same body of the snow haired boy he'd met. It's appearance resembled more of a butchered lamb than a human, making the redhead's insides churn at the sight.

It's once pale skin now held a bloody red color, giving the image that it had been turned inside out. It wouldn't have been a surprise if that fact were true, considering the massive amount of contraptions that had been used against the boy.

Ayato's breath was shaky as he tried to block out the haunting sound of dripping liquid from the cell across from him. He was well aware of where it came from. It was the snow haired boy's fresh blood that still seeped from his open skin.

Without being able to control it, a single tear slipped past the redhead's clenched eyes, not daring to open them again. He knew that Rei's chest could very likely be unmoving by now, but Ayato preferred to escape from reality just a little bit and hope that the younger boy was merely unconscious.

Whether Rei was dead or not, Ayato was not going to accept it anytime soon. The only thing he could think of was how long did he have until the same thing happened to him.

Not a single bit of food had been provided to either male since the beating they took, and whether Ayato liked it or not his mind couldn't stop thinking about what would happen if Rei didn't get the proper care he needed.

His mind already made up the perfect excuse for why he worried so much about Rei's state. If anybody was going to kill the boy, it had to be Ayato.

His own body was still aching intensely from yesterday's events. How Rei could handle this sort of abuse, Ayato didn't know. All he did know was that it hurt. A lot. His throat burned like a raging dragon, his arms and legs wouldn't respond to him and a sharp pain slammed against his ribs with every breath he took.

Yet he still knew that none of it could compare to how the snow haired boy would've been feeling if he were awake.

The strong putrid scent invaded his nostrils once again and Ayato clenched his eyes even tighter, trying to control the bile crawling up his throat. Without any luck he was forced to release his gastric fluids onto himself once more, his head spinning as the thick liquids mixed with the old ones and slid their way down his body and onto the floor.

All of this was Rei's fault. If he hadn't tried to kill the redhead, maybe Big Madam would've gone easier on both of them. Maybe Rei wouldn't have been in his current state, maybe Ayato wouldn't be forced to see the snow haired boy like that, because it sure as hell wasn't a pretty sight.

'It's all his fault' Ayato repeated over and over again in his head. 'When he wakes up, he's gonna get it from me.' He reiterated, not even realizing that he was unconsciously using his words as an insurance that the snow haired boy would in fact wake up.

And when he did, Ayato was undoubtedly going to give him a piece of his mind.

If the snow haired boy was still breathing, that is...

"Please," the redhead whispered almost like a prayer, his voice hoarse from yesterday's agonizing screams. Bloody hands circled around his strands of hair, mercilessly pulling at them as he tried to contain the upcoming tears lining his eyelids.

"Please let him be breathing."
