I watched the clouds clash together and move apart. The sky seemed fake in a way. I sat in the back seat with my legs crossed twirling my hair. I was nervous. My heart dropped as we pulled up to the school and I saw teenagers on campus. Some where running around. Some where studying. Some where texting. I could see the different groups that there where.
I paid the cab driver and stood in front of the school gate, not knowing what to do, not knowing who to talk to.
A young woman who was walking my way with dyed short blond hair pulled into the tightest bun that came to the back of her head. She was wearing a white shirt that was tucked into her navy blue shirt as she walked very still on her black high heels. She came to the front of me.
"Are you, um, Alaska Jones?" She stumbled reading my name, as if she couldn't believe my name was a country. "Do you have a real name?" She said thinking i was pulling a joke.
"No, my name is Alaska..." I said with my eyebrows raised, a little annoyed.
"Ah, i'm truly sorry, we don't get names like that here" said embarrassed.
"It's okay" i said uncomfortably laughing.
She guided me to the principals office. We walked through the empty halls because school didn't start for 30 more minutes. I came to the office and there was a bag with uniforms sitting on her desk. The principal looked up and spread a smile on her face.
"Hi welcome!" she said and stuck her hand out. We shook hands and she gestured i sat down in a chair in the other side of her desk.
She gave me an introduction of herself and showed me around the school.
And the bell rang.
