I  looked up at the sky and saw trees passing me by quickly. It wasnt until I looked down at my feet that I realized I was running.

Running from what? Or who?

I heard my name being called over and over but I couldn't look back.

I ran into an open field and I was surrounded by shadows.

I heard a gun clock back and felt the icey cold metal touch my temple.

"I'm sorry."  A voice whispered to me.

When I looked up, I felt my whole being just shatter.

"Brittney?"

Bang.

I was brought back to reality when the lunch bell rang. That nightmare I had last night really has me unfocused today. .

I didn't even realize I was already in the middle of my 2nd period. The class quickly became empty as I just sat there with my head in my hands.

A pair of hands touched my back and a chill went up my spine.

"Mr. Alvarez. is everything alright?  Usually you're dying to leave my class."

I chuckled and looked up at my biology teacher. He was pretty old for a teacher. Grey hair... Well whatever hair he had left was grey and he had these big round glasses.

"I'm fine Mr.Tim. I just didnt get much sleep last night."

He nodded and walked back to his desk.

I grabbed my bag and walked out into the empty hall. I made my way into the cafeteria and decided on skipping lunch today. It reeked of fish sandwichs and bad meat.

I walked over to my boys and found them typically arm wrestling and messing around.

Dutch looked over at me and grinned.

"Kevvvv! What it do pimp? We thought they locked you up in detention."

I sent back a weak smile and just shook my head. I looked over at Ricky and he nodded his head towards the double doors that led to the outside part of the cafe.

"Ya girl back there. You should go talk to her."

I clapped him up and proceed towards the door.

Once the doors were opened I had to close my eyes. The sun was not playing today.

When my eyes finally adjusted,  I kept walking trying to find Brit.

I walked past the cheerleaders and noticed that Jazmine wasnt with them. I received dirty looks from all the girls.

I kept up my pace until I heard my name being called. I turned and saw Shauna standing there with her arms crossed over her chest.

"What's up Shauna? "

She walked over to me and shook her head.

"You're a pussy ass nigga you know that?  How you let some random chick beat up somebody you've known for years?"

Once I realized this was going nowhere, I placed my hand up. She stopped talking and looked at me.

"Have you seen Brittney?"

Her mouth dropped and she just rolled her eyes.

" Your bitch is back there talking with another nigga."

I nodded my head and turned around.  I walked back to the end of the courtyard and I couldn't find her. I looked around until I caught sight of her black hair pinned up into a bun. She was standing in the parking lot leaned into the window of an unfamiliar car.

I slowly walked over to her. I noticed that she grabbed another one of those brown bags out of her purse and gave it to the driver. He clapped her hand and she placed something into her back pocket.

The vehicle made a U-turn and slowly drove towards me. When it reached me, it completely stopped. The tinted window slowly opened and a pair of eyes stared at me.

Some smoke began to leave the car and it mixed into the wind. I stood there for a minute waiting for something to happen.

A chill ran up my spine once I realized those eyes seemed familiar.

I overheard Brittney calling me and I looked over at her. The car sped off and I walked to her.

"Hey Britt. Why you all the way back here?"

She laughed and pushed me to start for the courtyard.

"Dont worry 'bout me."

I couldn't help but smile. Her closed attitude just attracted me.

We found a table by the doors and she immediately climbed up and sat on the table. I took a seat on the bench and looked up at her.

The sun really made her skin shine and her eyes became a lighter brown than before.

Her voice took me out of my fantasy.

"So whats up? You were looking for me?"

She had the most perfect smile. I couldn't help but just stay cheesing around her.

"Yea, I wanted to check up on you and see how your hands were doing."

We both looked down at her hands. They were still bruised at the knuckles but she shrugged.

"Ehh. They're fine. I took care of them last night."

I simply nodded and looked down at the ground. It was hard for me to keep my thoughts clean being around her. She wore khaki shorts and a red Chuck Taylor shirt with red low top Chucks.

I cleared my throat and spoke.

"So how's your day been so far?  Nobody giving you any trouble right?"

She bursted out laughing.

"My day is going fairly well. No one has messed with me. But even if they were, you wouldn't do much about it; seeing that you got slapped and I defended you"

She rose and began to walk away.

My heart felt heavy and I couldn't look up at her. She actually made me feel embarrassed.

I saw a hand being held out to me. When I rose my head, Brittney was standing there smiling at me.

"Well? You coming or naww?"

I smiled and grabbed her hand. We walked side by side back into the cafeteria.
