When it was finally time to leave we walked out to Raven’s car and started heading home. A million things were racing through my mind as we left the event. Why did he stare at me like that? Why did I stare back? Why did I have butterflies in my stomach the whole time our eyes were locked? Why did he look back? Did I actually like it? Did he like it? I couldn’t make sense of anything at the moment. I was pulled out of my thoughts when Raven began squawking.
“Did you see the way he smiled at me!?” she giggled. “He was totally into me! I knew he would be! I mean were totally soul mates!”
“Yeah, he was into something alright...” I whispered.
“What?” she asked.
“Umm, nothing,” I quickly said. I decided it was best not to tell Raven about what happened.
“Anyways, I really hope he calls me!” she said.
“How would he do that, he doesn’t have your number?” I asked.
“He does now! While we were taking the picture together I slipped a piece of paper with my name and number on it into the pocket of his jacket!” she told me.
“Raven!” I shouted. “Are you crazy!?”
“Nope, I’m smart!” she said proudly.
We spent the rest of the ride quietly lost in our own thoughts. When we got back Raven walked off to her room, giggling to herself and staring at the picture of her and Josh for the hundredth time. As I crawled into bed I couldn’t help but think about my encounter with Josh, and I drifted off to sleep with the vision of those hazel eyes locked on mine.
