Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep

I open my eyes to white walls, bright lights and constant beeping in my ear. I turn my head, which is pounding, and see a heart monitor. Looking down, I see a single blanket covering up to my collar bone. I pull it down and see several IVs in my arm.

"You're awake." A female voice says. I look up at a rapid pace which wasn't a good idea because the room starts to spin. "Easy there. You need to move at a slow pace. You suffered very bad injuries from the accident."

The accident.

"How long have I been asleep?" I ask.

"Two weeks." She says.

As the nurse tells me my injuries, I remember everything. The argument and then the collision, head on. My mom! Where's my mom?

"Is my Mom okay?" I ask the nurse.

"I'm sorry, but your Mother's injuries were too severe. She passed away on the ride in. I'm so sorry, my dear."

My mom's dead.

She's gone. The only person I had left is gone. The last thing I heard her say was something about her drinking some bad wine. That's the last memory I have of my mom.

All of my thoughts overwhelm me and it clicks that my mom is dead. Tears and sobs overwhelm me and I hear the heart monitor's beeping multiple.

"Ms. Summers, I know this is traumatic and upsetting, but you need to slow your heart rate down."

I deep breathe and try to push the tears away. I know she wasn't much of a mother, but she was still my mother. At least she's with my dad now... Wait.. Daniel.

"What about the man who was in the car?"

"We only found you and your mother. There was no man."

"Th-That's impossible. He was driving our car. He has to be dead."

"Either that or he jumped out and ran."

How does one jump out of a car when it's about to collide with a truck and run from the scene? Leaving his wife!

"EMTs took the liberty of searching through your mother's purse for identification. Once we found it, it took some research to figure out who you were. While they were searching online, we found your aunt and she is coming to pick you up."

"What about my Step-Brother?"

"We have no information on him. Your Aunt Lisa is picking you up in two days. That's when you are being discharged." She informs me.

No information on Jackson! Hallelujah! I'm finished with him and Daniel! Wait, two days?

"Why two days?" I ask.

"Well, as I said you get released in two days and your Aunt lives in Los Angeles, it is going to take hours to get here."

California... I'm moving to California?! I can't! What about Maris and Luke? I have school! And my fans! What about Genevieve? I can't tell my Aunt that I'm Genevieve King! I can't tell anyone! I feel nauseous!

"My name is Kristen. If you need me, just press this button, okay?" She tells me, pointing to a red button on the side of my bed. I nod and she walks out.

------

Two days of being treated by a doctor for my injuries sustained during the accident and by the knife that Jackson used to cut me passed quickly. The gash by my eyebrow reopened in the accident and grew. I didn't need stitches, but they put a tape thing over it that I have to keep on for three weeks.

The scars on my arms and the rest of my body were treated and are lighter. My Aunt stopped at the house to pack all of my clothes, books and other things I needed. She must've taken one look at my room and thought that I was a total slob.

Maris and Luke came to see me and we said goodbye. That was the hardest goodbye I will ever have to say. Maris was crying, Luke was teary-eyed but strong for his sister and I was sobbing.

"Ready to go, Juliet?" Aunt Lisa asks as she glances into my room from where she stands at the front desk. I look around the hospital room and finally walk out.

"How many times do I have to tell you, my name is Jay. Not Juliet." I say. Lisa isn't like my mother. She's a caring and sincere woman. No wonder she's from my father's side of the family.

"Okay, whatever you say. It's a long drive so I brought you one of your books. The rest are all packed for you in the trunk." I look at the book in her hand and see The Evolution of Mara Dyer.

"I can't read that." I simply say.

"Why?"

"It's the second book in the trilogy. Mom's husband took the first one before I had a chance to read it." She sighs and nods.

As we walk out of the hospital, I feel the tears gathering in my eyes. I just want my bed. I want to take a shower. I want to go home!

"You're going to love California! It's always warm and sunny instead of cloudy and cold." Lisa says as she unlocks the car. We get in and I take my phone out to text Maris.

------

After three hours of driving, I am not any closer to a bed. Instead I hear my phone ring in my pocket. I look at the Caller ID and see it's my, Genevieve's, manager, Jamie.

"Hello?" I answer.

"So you just decide to skip four concerts? Where the hell have you been?" He yells. It's too late at night to deal with this. I don't want to deal with this anymore. Maybe this is my way out, out of my Mom and Daniel's lives! I can get away from this and get discovered the right way, away from drugs, alcohol and people who are only out for themselves and want to hurt me.

"I'm sorry, who is this?" I ask, pretending to be someone else.

"What are you talking about, Juliet?"

"I apologize, you didn't hear?"

"Hear what?"

"There was a car accident. She's dead." My Aunt looks at me, thinking that I'm talking about my mom.

"Juliet is dead?" He asks in shock.

"I'm sorry, sir." I say. "Please do not call this number anymore."

"Yeah... Yeah, sorry." He says, taken aback. He hangs up and I feel so relieved that this is over.

"I'm so sorry about your mom, sweetheart." Lisa says.

"So am I." I whisper in return.
