Chapter 9: Learning Time.

"So, what was that Intel you found?" Ryan says. "Let me read it." I say.

Experiment 243-A - The Injection. The Injection is a sort of cure for Rabies and the Flu. It stops most of the symptoms of rabies and the Flu. But it can still spread. Curiously, it looks like there are mutations of the remaining symptoms. Our scientists will take a look into it. A test subject, a dog, has bitten one of our veterinarians during a checkup. We have quarantined the test subject and have begun treatment of the wound. - 1/3/18.

We have made a grave mistake and we are paying for it. The injection has an effect on humans. It erases their cognitive functions and makes them feral. A bite from a test subject or an infected will transfer the effects. We have found out that four out of 100 people are immune to its effects.  There has been an outbreak in the base. Me and a group of survivors have boarded ourselves up in the lobby. I think I saw a person climb through an air vent and to the outside. He said he was going to save us. It's been 3 hours since. We are starting to get overwhelmed. God, have mercy on my soul. If you are reading this, don't go to the bottom floor, it's where Patient Zero is. - 1/9/18.

I look at the Intel in anger and shock. "What does it say?" Ryan and Susie ask.

“Our government has fucked over humanity. They created this." Susie looks shocked.

"What do you mean?" Ryan asks.

"They meant to create a cure for rabies and the flu but its mutations basically made humans into zombies." I say.

"Don't let a dog or any animal near you. From what this said, they tested it on animals first. They can spread the 'cure' to you. Also, 4 out of 100 people are immune to the effects of the ‘cure’."

The elevator is going down. "What floor is this going to?" Susie questions.

Ryan shrugs. "I hit the bottom floor button."

I sigh. "Fuck. Guys, that's where the infection began." A blood-curdling howl goes up the elevator shaft.

"Ah hell. Get ready for trouble." I say while pulling out my shotgun and making sure it’s loaded.

1 floor left. "Let's do this." Ryan says while smiling.

The doors open and we are greeted with a horde. "LIGHT THESE FUCKERS UP!" I shout while firing with reckless abandon.

Susie takes 3 heads off with one shot. And Ryan is just spraying and praying. "DIE! DIE! DIE!" Susie shouts as she fires into the horde.

I put the shotgun over my back and pull out the crowbar.

"Reloading!" Ryan shouts.

I start swinging at heads. "Get the fuck back! You assholes!" I shout.

I pull out my bat and throw the crowbar at a zombie. "Move! I'm ready to fire!" I back off and load shells into my shotgun.

Ryan takes out 15 zombies. Susie slams a zombie's head into the elevator wall. "Fucking hell, I don't remember the first day of the apocalypse being this easy!" I shout while shooting a Leaper.

"This is easy to you!?" Ryan shouts.

"Yeah! I had to defend myself against a whole bus of zombies." I say as I kill the final member of the horde.

"We did it!" I say while walking out. I get grabbed by a Licker. "Fuck! Help me!"

Ryan shoots the Licker right in the face. "Thank you. Now, let's see what's in here." I say while we start to walk down the hall.

               10 Minutes Later.

"Hey, what's that?" Susie says while pointing at a dead body.

I take a note from the dead body. The body also has been hacked apart. "What does it say?" Ryan asks.

I read it out loud to them. "If you are reading this note, I'm dead. We have made a grave mistake. That 'cure' was a lie. It was a government experiment to create a biological weapon. And it fucking worked. I found that information by hacking into the database. There is a way to stop this. There is a gas that neutralizes the effects, basically curing the 'disease'. It's in my office, down the hall, and the first door to the right. If you wish to save humanity, please grab the gas and look at the information on my computer." I put the note in my satchel.

"So, there is a cure? And the government actually meant for this to happen?" I ask.

"Apparently." Susie says.

"Let's go get the gas." Ryan says.
