I actually wasn’t surprised to see Dylan standing there. I was surprised to see him standing there with a group of the ‘populars’ from school.
“What do you want, Dylan?” I said. I notice that one girl in particular was latched on to Dylan’s arm. I lifted my sunglasses to get a better look at her. It was Jenna Simpson. She was the one person who would always make fun of me. Although the rest of them made fun of me as well, Jenna was the one who always started it. She gave me an evil glare when I looked at her.
“I need to talk to you.” He said again. I waited.
“Well, talk.” I said.
“I understand why you do what you do.” He said. He started leaning into me.
“What are you talking about?” I asked. He got closer.
“I know why you cut your wrists. You cut because people make fun of you. You believe what they say.” He said. His face was close to mine. I could feel the warmth of his breath on my face. He needed a mint. Badly.
“That’s none of your business.” I whispered. My eyes were stinging.
“It is because I came to tell you that you’re pathetic. You deserve everything people say to you. You think you can cover up everything, but you can’t. You’re a loser, Hayley. A loser who cuts because it ‘makes you feel better’. You deserve to die.” He said. My eyes exploded with tears. Dylan and the populars laughed.
“Look at the poor baby crying.” Jenna snickered. “You can cry all you want, sweetheart. No one cares.” She said. I covered my face in my hands. Then, I heard the sound of a chair being slammed into the table.
“You should leave.” Riker said. He got close to Dylan’s face. It was then that I realized how much taller Riker was compared the Dylan. “Now.” Riker threatened. I peeked from my hands. Dylan put his hands up in a surrender motion.
“Alright dude. I’m just telling her the truth.” He backed away. “Loser.” Dylan and the populars murmured before leaving. Riker came over and squatted, placing his hand gently on my knee.
“Are you ok? Don’t believe anything that jerk just said.” He said. His voice was sincere and comforting. I couldn’t take it no more. I had to go somewhere and relieve the anger and sadness that was building up in me. I stood up from the chair.
“I have to go Riker.” I said. I stormed down the street.
“Hayley! Hayley wait!” Riker shouted after me. I didn’t turn back. I just kept running and running.
