The limo pulled up at the community center and the guys got out first.
“Wow!” I said, taking Dylan’s hand and stepping out. The entire entrance was covered in colorful lights, totally showing the summer party mood. There were balloons and confetti everywhere. The whole place looked awesome. I completely didn’t expect anything like it considering the fact that the community center was where all the old people and little kids hung out.
“I know.” He said. Dylan gripped my hand as we made our way inside. Surprisingly, the inside was decorated nice too and there were a lot of people already there.
“Those old people really did a good job cleaning up the place.” Jamie said beside me. I was tempted to nudge her in the arm with my elbow, but stopped myself when one of the staff came up to us.
“Welcome to the annual summer bash. All of you look lovely. Here are some party necklaces. Have fun!” The lady said. She handed us some beaded necklaces and left.
“Um, perky much?” Jamie commented. I shot her a glare. “What?” I rolled my eyes and glanced around the packed room. My eyes stopped on the most perfect blonde hair I have ever seen.
“Riker!” I called. Letting go of Dylan’s hand, I pushed my way through a few people to Riker.
“Hayley!” He pulled me in for a hug. “Wow, you look stunning.” Riker said. His eyes went over my dress and then back up so he was looking me in the eyes.
“You look good, too. I love the tie.” I said. Riker smiled. “I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve been wanted to tell you something for the longest time. I-“ Dylan appeared at my side.
“Hey Riker. I’m sorry, but can I steal my girlfriend away from you for a second?” Dylan asked, cutting me off.
“Yeah sure. After all, she is your girlfriend.” Riker said, shocking me. Dylan and Riker exchanged smiles before Dylan pulled me to the middle of the dance floor. My gaze never left Riker’s sad smile.
“I was sorta in the middle of an important conversation with Riker.” I said completely pissed off. Dylan put his hands on my waist.
“I’m sorry, but I wanted to dance with you. After all this is your favorite song. Am I right?” Dylan said. The music I had been ignoring flowed through my ears. Sure enough, it was my favorite song. “Will you dance with me?” He asked. I sighed secretly.
“Sure. I guess.” I answered. I put my hands on Dylan’s shoulders and we began to sway slowly to the music. Ever so often, my eyes found Riker in the crowd of people who weren’t dancing. He looked truly sad just like the way I felt inside. I needed to go talk to him. Now. Luckily the song finished and switched to an up beat song.
“Dylan, I’ll be right back. I need to go to the, uh, washroom.” I said.
“Sure.” He said. I walked in the direction of the bathroom, and glanced back to see if he was watching me. He wasn’t so I changed directions to where I last saw Riker. Riker was nowhere to be seen.
“Crap!” I said looking around. Doing a quick scan of the sea of people, my eyes found his blonde hair again and I quickly ran toward him.
“Riker. Um sorry about the interruption early. I just wanted to tell you that I-“ Again, I was cut off. This time by Ross.
“Dude, I need you.” He said to his brother. Riker gave me an apologetic look.
“Sorry Hayley. I’ll get back to you later.” He said before going off. My eyes started watering as I took off my heels and my made way over to Jamie who was sitting down on a couch. I plopped down next to her.
“I’m never gonna get Riker.”
