It was the first day of summer vacation and I was so excited. Me and my friends were headed to the beach. I danced to the bathroom, being careful not to step on my friend Jamie who was sleeping on the floor. She slept over after getting into a fight with her mom last night.

I washed up on the bathroom and walked out, noticing Jamie was awake and petting my dog, Max.

“Hey sleeping beauty.” I said to her, walking over to my closet. I took out my two piece purple bathing suit.

“Morning, Hayley.” She said in her grumpy morning voice. She walked into the bathroom as I grabbed a pair of short and a crop top to put over my bathing suit. After I dressed she came out. “So, can I borrow a bathing suit?” She asked, sitting on the edge of my bed. “I forgot to pack one last night.” I rolled my eyes.

“Yeah right. You just want to wear my pink bikini because you like it and want to impress your boyfriend.” I said, throwing a sock at her.

“Not true!” She protested. “Although I do admit it is adorable and Caleb will swoon over me if I wear it. If you let me borrow it, I’ll let you drive.” She said, dangling her keys in the air. I couldn’t resist, so I grabbed the keys and threw the bathing suit at her. Her parents had bought her a red convertible for her birthday last year which I was in love with. I was stuck driving my mom’s old car, which could brake down any second.

While Jamie got ready, I went back into the bathroom to fix my hair. I looked in the mirror. My hair was already drying and forming perfect spiral curls. I had layers of curly brown hair that even the best flat iron couldn’t beat. I pushed some of the hair off my face and sprayed it a little with some hairspray. By the time I came out, Jamie was ready.

We drove to the beach, with the top of the convertible off so the breeze could fly though our hair.

I grabbed my bag and slammed the door shut. Jamie already ran out the car to greet Caleb, her boyfriend.

“Hey Hayley!” Caleb’s sister, Kelsey, said to me.

“Hey.” I said back, giving her a hug. Her pink hair was knotted up in a bun that rested on the top of her head- the typical Kelsey look. I noticed behind her that my ex boyfriend Dylan was standing there. Oh boy. I grabbed Jamie away from Caleb.

“What’s Dylan doing here?” I whispered. Jamie looked back to glance at Dylan.

“Caleb invited him because he was down in the dumps. If you know what I mean.” She said, pushing her sunglasses on the top of her head.

“Well he should be. He did dump me a couple of months ago.” I said. Jamie put an arm around my shoulder.

“Hayley, don’t worry. Dylan is not going to kill you. Now let’s get going.” She said, going back to Caleb. He put an arm around her waist as she fixed her pony tail. I looked away, missing the feeling of an arm around my waist. Kelsey was already ahead of everybody and I was stuck with Dylan.

“Hi, Hayley.” He said to me.

“Hi.” I awkwardly said back.

We walked on the boardwalk for awhile before we went on the actually sand. There was a lot of people and the sun was shining really bright, so I couldn’t see. I stopped for a second to reach into my bag for sunglasses. When I looked up, Jamie and the rest of my friends were gone.

“Ugh, great.” I muttered. All of a sudden I was on the sand. Someone just pushed me right out of the way.

“Hey, do you need some help?” A kind voice said over me. I looked up and saw the most handsomest guy offering his hand to help.
