I was still sitting on the side of the road when he pulled up. He got out of the car and walked over to me.

“Hayley.” He greeted me.

“Dylan.” I said back. He sat down on the road next to me.

“Thanks for coming.” I said. I was thankful for him coming to get me, but I really didn’t want to call him. Unfortunately, I had to because no one I called picked up their damn phones.

“Whatever.” He said. His gaze was focused on my wrecked car. “So, how’d you get yourself into this mess?” Dylan asked.

“You’re gonna laugh if I told you.” I said.

“I probably won’t though.” He said.

“I know you, Dylan. You will.” I said. Dylan let out a laugh.

“You know Hayley. I’ve been thinking about you. What you said. What I did.” He said. His eyes were still focused ahead.

“It doesn’t matter anymore. I’m over it.” I said, cringing at the memory of what happened. He turned to face me. His icy blue eyes staring right through me.

“It does matter. I made the stupidest mistake. I only said what I did to fit in with that popular crowd, but I realized they were mean. I didn’t belong there with them. I belonged with my crazy friends. I belonged with my girlfriend…… you.” Dylan said.

“I-I don’t know what to say.” I said.

“You don’t have to say anything. I’m sorry, Hayley, from the bottom of my heart.” He took my hand in his. “I love you.” I stood quiet, trying to process what was going on. Did he just tell me he loves me? What the hell? Dylan’s eyes searched mine, as I searched his, looking for the truth.

“Hayley? Say something.” He said, his voice concerned.

“You actually mean that don’t you?” I asked.

“Of course.” He nodded. I was quiet again for a moment. Then I did the unthinkable and leaned in and kissed him. Dylan kissed back while one of his hands moved up to gently touch my cheek and the other on went to my waist. My hands went up to his neck. The kiss was sweet but nothing like the kiss I shared with Riker last night.

We stood there, sitting on the side of the road, kissing each other for a while, until I pulled back.

“Did you feel that?” He asked.

“Uh, yeah.” I lied.

“The spark is still there, baby.” He whispered. I nodded, lying once again. He stood up and stuck out his hand. “Let’s get outta here.” He said. I took his hand and stood up.

“What about my crap car?” I asked. Then I thought about it. “Nevermind.” Dylan laughed and put his arm around my waist.

“You said it yourself. It is a crap car.” He said, opening the passenger side of his car for me.

“Shut up.” I teased. Dylan laughed again as he slid into the drivers seat.

"I meant what I said earlier. I really do love you, Hayley.” He said abruptly. I smiled.

“I know.” I answered as we leaned in to kiss again.
