"What are you doing?" I asked my sister Lauren as she was making very... well strange kissing faces in the bathroom mirror. She jumped, facing me immediately with a glare on her face.
"Why must you always sneak up on me? Haven't you heard of a knock?" She asked in a rush, obviously still bugged out. I smiled at her as I rolled my eyes, jumping up on the counter to sit on. She sighed as she picked up her make-up, adding eyeliner. "Why are you in here?"
"Sheesh, for not seeing me for years, you sure want to get rid of me right quick, don't you?" I said as I leaned against the cold mirror. I watched as she stopped for a moment as she looked at me via the mirror.
"Sorry, I'm just nervous." She said as she continued to apply her make-up.
"James and I are going on a date tonight and I just want to make sure I look good, you know?" She said as she placed the eyeliner on the counter. She gave me a nervous smile as she took a breath. "He's really sweet, Jessy. He's nice to me, says all the right things, and is fucking gorgeous!" I couldn't help the smile that graced my lips.
"That's cute. But there's no need to be nervous. I'm pretty sure he thinks the same about you." I said as I patted her arm gently. She smiled at me as she turned completely towards me.
"Yeah, I guess, but why are you in here anyway? Not to sound rude, I was just wondering." She asked as she grabbed eyeliner, her eyes looking at herself in the mirror once more.
"No reason really, Dad took Nico to his office for the afternoon seeing as how he's acting so amazing lately. I think that new medicine is really helping him." I said as I leaned my head against the mirror once again, rubbing my stomach. "I thought maybe we could hang out seeing as how we haven't since I got here." I laughed as she frowned at me.
"Jessy...." She said as she looked at me with a frown. "I wish you would have brought this up before I made plans." She frowned. I just yawned as I shook my hand at her.
"No it's okay. I'll just watch TV or something." I said as I hopped off the counter.
"Anyway, why don't you go see Deanney?" She recommended. I frowned as I took a silent sigh. "Hm?"
"I don't know." I said as I walked out of the bathroom. "I saw her last night and well... words were said, so we probably will never see one another?" I said as a question.
"God you two are so dumb, go win her back idiot." Lauren said as she pointed out the door. "You're only going to be here for one more day."
"What good would that even do? We live across the country?" I said as I leaned against the door frame. I watched as Lauren rolled her eyes, turned towards me with an annoyed face.
"So transfer your credits here? You're an A student and you were accepted to USC, remember? Besides, why don't you just adopt Nico? It's not like you don't see him as your son anyway, plus I think dad and mom would love you being home, and we're all really fond of him." She said as she finally put all of her make-up away. "You said he was doing a lot better, so I'm sure he'd be thrilled to live here, Plus, if anything happen to him, the hospital is like literally five miles from here? So, what's stopping you?" She asked as she walked out of the door.
I didn't say anything to that as I just watched her walk into her bedroom. 'Transfer...' that word kept creeping into my head. What if I did transfer? What if I could adopt Nico? What if... I proved to Deanney that I would do anything to win her back?
So, I grabbed my old car keys, ran out the door and drove to the only place I knew I wanted to be; Deanney's house.
I hadn't been there in years and as I slowed to a stop behind a black car I looked up at the small, but still cute little house she lived in with her family.
