"You came over here just to give her a box?" A young man's voice said. I turned around to see myself looking a fragile looking boy who stood with the box in his arms. Jessica moved next to him, urging him to go back inside. "No, Jessica. Something needs to be said." He said as he shrugged her away. She placed a hand on her face as she looked at me with sad eyes.
Let me tell you, fighting the urge to wrap my arms around her, is very difficult."Nico... don't... it's too cold... go back inside..." She said, her voice wavering. I looked behind them to see her entire family had come out now. 'Great....'
"Jessica, when I met her at least two years ago, was the only person that actually cared for me. She showed me love, when my parents just abandoned me. When her and I became really close, she would always tell me about someone she left behind, She would tell me stories about this girl named Deanney, who she made the mistake of leaving." He said.
I looked at Jessica who looked like she was about to freak out, but kept her composure; her fingers rubbed the bridge of her nose. "So, here stands before me, The Deanney Miller... and you two haven't seen each other in what... nearly four years? And the only thing you came here to do was give her back a box filled with papers and pictures?
I heard about your accident and I'm sorry to hear that, but don't you think you two owe it to each other to at least talk?" He said as he was huffing out air slightly. I looked down at the small child in bewilderment. He couldn't have been older than ten in my eyes. Yet... he spoke with such... I don't even know how to describe it...
"He's right you know." I heard Mrs. Faye say. I looked up at her, her eyes trained on mine. I chewed on the inside of my cheek; my leg on fire as I looked back at Coldie. She seemed to grasp what I meant as she ran back to her car, grabbing my crutches and handing them to me.
When I looked back at the Faye family and this... mystery child I felt out of place, as if I was on the wrong side of this argument. "This is not the place to talk about it.
Why doesn't everyone come in and I'll finish making pancakes." Mrs. Faye announced as her husband smiled and wrapped an arm around her while they walked inside.
My brain was hurting as I fought the urge to move.
"That means you three as well, Deanney." She said as she eyed balled me. I frowned as I shook my head, looking back at Alexis who had the look on her face that screamed 'Don't!' I looked back over to see Jessica casting a glance elsewhere whereas her sister wrapped an arm around the small fragile looking boy and walked him inside their house.
"Are you guys coming?" I heard that sweet angelic voice ask me. I closed my eyes as I clutched past her, ignoring the fact that Alexis and Coldie were probably dumbfounded.
