A Letter of Promise

Chapter 8

"What is it?"
Tila nag taka din ang mga ito dahil sa pagkaka tahimik niya.

"Something happened at the Program." Tumalikod na siya at tinakbo ang kaniyang kotse.

"Hey! Saan ka pupunta!?" Nina tried to run after her. She didn't look at her friends and continue running fast.

"Mom will text me the address." Sa nag aalalang boses at kilos ay pinipilit niyang kinakalma ang sarili.

Her mom said she needs her. So that means something bad really happened.

"Okay susunod kami, i forward mo ang address." Nina, Cath, Bless, and their close friends stood up and started packing up. Somehow she felt a bit of peace. But the sudden commotion on the other cottage which the Alegre's and their friends rented made her think of almost all the possibilities.

What's happening? Nalilito na siya sa nangyayari.

"I said to move faster bro!" She heard the stern and the concern in Fervs voice.

Tila alam na niya, may nangyari nga. She didn't mind her friends and run as fast as she could just to get inside her car. As soon as she gets in she stepped on the gas and reached the fastest run of wheels. When she heard her phone beeped she stepped on the brake and stop a bit. When she read the message and saw that is an address of a hospital, she doubled her speed. Lahat ng makasalubong niya ay naglilihisan dahil hindi na rin niya binitiwan ang busina. In no time she's already there. She went immediately to the nurse's station and ask for both of her parents.

The moment she got the room number, she didn't waste any second and run towards the hallway that leads her to her father's room. She didn't knock, and there she saw her mom, tumayo ito ng mapako siya sa kinatatayuan dahil sa nakitang kalagayan ng ama.

Her mom embraced her, tightly, she could feel her mom trembling knees and shaking hands. Their sobs filled the huge room.

On the bed is her father having lots of wires, she traced each of it and saw, apparatus on the right that connects to her father's stomach, oxygen on his nose, a huge hose on his mouth, and another wire on his hand. Natutop niya ang bibig upang pigilan ang paghikbi ngunit tila kulang ang kaniyang mga palad para pagtakpan ang sakit na nararamdaman.

Nang makabawi ay inalalayan niya ang ina na makaupo at inabutan ito ng bottled water na malamang ay galing sa mga nurse na naawa dito.
After a long moment of silence that filled with deep sighs and sobs, she wiped her tears and squared her shoulders.

"What h-happened ma?" Sa humihikbing tinig ay pinilit niyang maitanong ang bagay na bumabagabag sa kaniya magbuhat pa kaninang tumawag ang ina.

"Patapos na ang programa, nagkakamayan na ng biglang may mga nagpaulan ng bala." Her mom tried to be tough, she appreciates that. For her, her mom tries to be tough. She knows even her parents don't tell her, that in between them there's no love at all. They're just trying to look happy and in love together because of her or maybe because of the politics.

"At siya lang ang tinamaan?" Kapag oo ang isinagot ng ina ay alam na niya kung sino ang master mind ng nangyaring pamamaril.

"No, maging si kagawad Sonny at ang iba pang tauhan ay nabaril din." Dito mahina ang ina niya sa mga logic na madalas nilang na pag aawayan ng kaniyang ama.

"How about the Alegres? Wala bang nabaril?" Tanong niya, determinadong mapatunayan na ang mga ito ang master mind ng pangyayari.

"Some of their men got shot. They're here too, ito ang pinaka malapit na ospital kaya dito na dinala. Even Felicidad fell unconscious, nagulat at natatokot siguro ito kaya hinimatay, she's in the other room with her husband and Clyde." She can easily say that her mom didn't even think that Alegres can be a suspect too. But she knows, the Alegre did that. She tells her mom that she'll call her friends so she needs to come out.
